Hi,

l was first diagnosed with Breast cancer September 2024 (age 35) and after lots of tests now on my treatment journey. Having a four and half year old who just started in early years at school and my wedding October MaskI was busy thankfully so didn’t have time to think too much about me , which at the time was great and I muddled through. I started Chemo week after my wedding EC type for 3 cycles every 2 weeks I am finally now on next Chemo drug ,as had delays from getting poorly which is envitable with a child at school and starting treatment in winter Disappointed. Finally made it to Chemo 5 (had Monday) Docetaxel  and I have really been knocked for six this time!  day 4 of feeling super poorly Mask but least not walking so funny Joy now  ,so if possible would like to hear about any tips to get through please Pray on Docetaxel another 2 to go .

Thanks for reading

  • After Chemo it will be appointments again for surgery options happy all moving now but it is overwhelming now but trying to focus one day at time. I am Proud of self as it has been tough ! I have fainted a few times biospy and before Mri (canula) ,  but still picked self up and carried on. I have hospital /needle phobia pretty bad at start of this and had to lie down when read the word cannula in a brochure they gave! Any support is most welcome Hugging . Thanks in advance

  • Hi 35diagnosedBC,

I was diagnosed May 2024 with BC I had 4 cycles 3 weekly of EC. It knocked me for six. The fatigue and gastric upset was awful. However my chemo finished in September.

I had lumpectomy and sentinels removed, chemo radiotherapy and now on Letrozole for 5 years.

The chemo was the worst. The operation I healed well from and radiotherapy was okay. I felt tired but part of that would be from all the treatments and travelling everyday.

I returned to work last week on phased return. I just wanted to highlight there is light at the end of the tunnel.

During chemo I slept a lot I know that will be difficult for you with the wee one. However rest when you can, eat healthy when you have an appetite and drink lots of fluids. I also had some reikki organised through cancer care which was brilliant and helped me relax. There are no rights or wrongs. Just listen to your body.

Take care, wishing you a speedy recovery and seeing hugs. Happy to chat or answer questions if helpful xx

  • Thank you nice to hear not alone in finding the Chemo I am on tough. Docetaxel is hitting me more I think and struggling to keep on top of side effects as delayed. Yes I am taking the need to test on board after these last few days! I need to slow down on first few days after chemo as I think I feel amazing because now am so burnt out! Day 3 after everything kicked in! Gastro issues (seem to get every time without fail no matter what I try very painful!)and then the muscle /bone pains and now a cough and cold so feeling so sorry for self now. I have had to let people help more with our son and not looking like I will manage much tomorrow as getting tired just walking around a bit. I do tell Chemo team but a lot is shrugged off as listed as common effects ,and they pretty much go yeah aww and all I hear is suck it up lol Joy. Don’t think they mean to come across like that and are good but I keep wondering if the dosage is too strong.

  • The more chemo you have accumulates in your body. It's exhausting.

For the gastro pain I took omeprazole to settle stomach, buscopan for the stomach cramps and effervescent paracetamol was my best friend.

I wrote all my side effects down. The doc gave me IV antisickness before my chemo and strong antisickness tablets to take at home. This helped with the nausea.

The positive is it's killing off any rogue cells and it's time limited.  Just do what you need to do to get through this. It's good you've got help with your wee one.

You will look back on this time and realise just how strong you were. Sending hugs xx

  • Completely with you on the squeamishness. I got through the biopsies but have fainted twice in treatment - i cant read about cannulas/ports either (hard to even type about it)

I try to do deep breathing and eat something sweet. Don’t worry - it’s a natural reaction - just a bit stronger for us than for some others

    Keep going

  • Thank you so much for your suggestions ,on omeprazole which helps my acid reflux, didn’t even think of buscopan worth a go. Also off to book up some things to help me relax I deserve it. Hope your now doing ok you sound very positive.

  • Oh bless you thanks for replying, glad not only one , feeling much more positive today.

  • I am doing much better now thank you. Be kind pamper yourself xx
