Hi All

New to this group, but not new to Breast Cancer.

This is my 2nd round of it. I have been cancer free for 15 years.

But recent Mammogram detected a small cancer opposite breast. Grade 1 and very treatable. My previous cancer was also good diagnosis. Had Lumpectomy, radiotherapy + Tamoxifen

I'm under the Marsden, Need the same again, lumpectomy etc.

However, I have been offered to join a randomised trial. The SMALL trial, where it's non invasive like surgery

Tbh, it's thrown me into turmoil, as my mind was prepared for surgery. I've no idea how successful this trial is.

Has anyone else had this please?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear that you’ve been diagnosed with a second breast cancer but positive that it has been classed as very treatable.
Re the SMALL trial - I have no experience of it but I have heard of it I think - where they do a vacuum assisted removal of the lump rather than a wide local excision? I’m not medical so can’t really comment but by replying it will bump your post back up to the top and hopefully you’ll get a reply from someone in a similar situation.
My other suggestion is that you could start a new thread with a title that mentions SMALL - eg ‘anyone taking part in the SMALL trial?’. Then everyone can see it immediately without opening the thread.
Also, the lovely folk here at MacMillan are available on the telephone helpline.
Last suggestion is to look at the breast cancer now website - I don’t use it much myself but they have a ‘someone like me’ facility, I think, where they put you in touch with someone in a similar situation.
Good luck with it all, sending love and a big virtual hug, HFxx
