Hi there - I have been hovering in the wings since my diagnosis, and I am already grateful to this group for the support I have seen and the questions that have been answered, so I thought it was time to join you.
I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer, which is oestrogen & progesterone receptor positive, but HER2 negative. One biopsied lymph node was also positive for cancer. I am between mammograms and picked up one lump myself, then the second one was discovered at my first appointment. I went expecting “nothing to worry about” to having mammograms, ultrasound and biopsies, then the news that it was very likely to be cancer. Then the waiting, that feels like forever, but now my surgery is booked in for 3rd December (lumpectomies and some of the lymph nodes). After the initial shock, I am now relieved to be booked in for surgery - although very nervous. Trying to take one step at a time, but also overthinking everything!
I had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy on Monday but wasn’t given any indication if it was cancer or not so now I’m patiently waiting for my test results xx
I was told it looked suspicious on the day of my initial tests, it was then confirmed in a face to face appointment 2 weeks later.
At the first appointment, after the mammograms & ultrasounds, I was told that the three areas looked very suspicious, and the breast areas definitely looked like cancer. They were unsure about the lymph node. Then all three areas were biopsied and I was given the confirmed diagnosis two weeks later. The HER2 result took longer. The waiting is definitely the agonising bit - my mind was working overtime. However, I told myself “it is what it is, and worrying isn’t going to change anything” (easier said than done!). I found that it helped to talk about it - and this group made me realise that there is such a lot of support on here, too x
Maybe they were unsure. Fingers crossed its not cancer.
When I asked the consultant radiologist how she knew before my biopsy results she said she knew because of what she seen on the screen. The shape colour etc. I think after doing these tests for years they will become pretty confident in their diagnosis.
I had to wait for biopsy results to see what type and grade xx
I wasn’t sure if I should ask the radiologist if she could tell me what it was. I’m assuming as she did the biopsy there and then that she had her suspicions. It’s been a week now and I still haven’t heard anything? My right breast has been quite painful (almost like a burning sensation) I don’t know whether it’s connected or whether it’s all in my head.
The area I had my biopsy, it’s not directly in my breast but I’m assuming the breast tissue/muscle goes into the chest wall area ??
Hi Larry20,
Yes the breast tissue goes from collar bone to arm pits and across chest wall.
My biopsy was taken from my breast where the lump was evident.
On the day of my biopsy I was then taken back into see the consultant who said it appeared to be cancer and the biopsy would confirm the type.
I assume all health boards and doctors work slightly different. It may be that they didn't say anything to you as they were not sure.
I received my biopsy results via telephone I'm positive it was 13 days later. They originally told me it could take 3 weeks to get them. I then worried mine was worse because they phoned me earlier. Our heads and thoughts during waits go to worst case scenarios.
The burning sensation could be related to biopsy but it may also be that your feeling it because you expect to feel something.
Hopefully you get your results soon and then you know exactly what your dealing with.
Be kind to yourself have little treats while your waiting. I wish you well. Happy to chat further.
Give the macmillan nurses a call today they are all lovely, discuss your concerns with them, get some support and reassurance xx
Thank you so much for your response. After I had my biopsy I went back to see the doctor and she didn’t say if she knew what it could be. She said I should receive my results within 7-10 days either by phone or face to face.
Sorry to hear your news and I hope you are ok and I wish you well x
Hi larry20
i was the same as Missmolly they said the biopsy results would take about two weeks and to bring someone with me. sha asked if I wanted to know as I was on my own but I said yes and it was positive for breast cancer.
I was shocked but she was also shocked as she thought it was just friction from my bra.
Hope this helps and please god you get better results.
Take care Xxx
I am doing well now thank you. Treatment complete now taking daily Letrozole and returning to work in the new year. Xx
I was only given an indication of how long it should take and how they’d contact me.
If it’s a face to face appointment then I will take someone with me ( just incase), my thoughts are it’s not a cyst as the biopsy was a core needle biopsy and not an FNA which I know is for drawing fluid.
Only time will tell, I’m due back to work tomorrow but if I’m honest until I know the results I don’t think I’d be able to think straight at work.
I hope you’re ok and have a good support system x
