Newly diagnosed

Morning, after finding a lump in early October I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Wednesday with a treatment plan being drawn up towards the end of the month.  I am having a MRI and CT scan on Tuesday and have already been told I will be having a left breast mastectomy.

I am wondering how soon after the treatment plan is drawn up and discussed will it actually start.  We have a couple of family things booked and paid for in November and I have no idea whether I am being optimistic in thinking I might still be able to attend.

Probably irrelevant really in the greater scheme of things!

  • Hi Harvestmoon,

Everyone appears to have different waits between diagnosis and treatment.

I got my results 21st May and had my op on 6th June this year. But I have heard others waiting a couple more weeks.

If you discuss with your consultant when discussing your plan they may work round about your plans.

Personally the quicker they cut it out of me the better. I was really keen to commence treatment.

    Good luck xx

  • Missymolly is right we are all different and not all breast cancers are the same.

i had weekly chemotherapy before having a left mastectomy.  Be sure that you will get the correct treatment for you.
make notes of all the questions to ask your consultant at your nest appointment.

    Best wishes Xxx

  • Thank you, and Good Luck to you too x

  • Thank you for the advice, strangely it seems to be the silly little things I am stressing about rather than the main issue.  Not sure that I have taken it on board yet.

  • Hi Harvestmion,

It's a lot to take in and we try to keep things as normal as possible. We all stress about different things depending on our priorities.

Having plans to look forward to is important and if you can then do them.

It will give you the comfort and strength to aid your recovery.

    Good luck xx
