Hello, I’m 31 & have 2 young boys. I found a hard lump in my right breast on Monday & have been referred to the breast clinic. I forgot to mention to the Dr I also have bruising around the breast & a sore itchy nipple. I’m in the clinic on Tuesday next week. I just wondered if anyone is currently going through the wait to be seen or could share their experience if they had similar symptoms. Thank you x
Hi sb31,
The waiting for results is the worst. The time between appointments can be a worry as we always go to worst case scenario.
I was diagnosed in May this year have had a lumpectomy and removal of sentinels nodes. I was given chemotherapy as a preventative measure as my tumour was grade 3. I start my radiotherapy next week and will be on medications now for about 10 years.
It's amazing the advancement of medications and treatments.
Once you have your results you will get a treatment plan if diagnosed. At the minute it might be negative.
Try to be kind to yourself. Take one step at a time and make use of macmillan nurses and cancer care who will give lots of support.
I wish you well in your recovery. Please keep us updated xx
Thank you so much for replying. I’m so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Bless you. I hope all goes as well as it can for you. Thank you x
I'm doing okay now getting there as we always do. We are stronger than we think.
I will keep my fingers crossed your results are favourable for you xx
Absolutely. Bless you. Thank you very much. I wasn’t too alarmed at first but each day the worry grows & I realise I’ve been struggling with this breast longer than I thought. X
Noone on any of the site lines the waits. Our imagination runs riot. Try to do something nice with the kids at the weekend distract yourself. Tuesday is not to far away xx
Thank you. Take care & good luck with your next treatment x
Hey Sb31, sounds like you are being seen quickly which is good. It's a postcode lottery sometimes and I was 5 weeks from GP appointment .
Anyway, I'm just a little ahead of you. Found a lump on my left breast with some dimpling 4 months ago- stupidly left it a while before getting it checked and had my breast clinic appointment on Tuesday. You will get a chance to go over any other symptoms you have with the doctor at the appointment as ultimately it's up to them to decide what course of action to take.
For me it was a chat, examination, then I was given a mammogram and ultrasound. A wee wait in the waiting room, then back to see the doctor for a chat about the results. In my case it was decided to do a biopsy as they weren't sure what they were looking at so that's where I am. Just waiting for the results now which I will get a week tomorrow .
Try not to worry too much and keep telling yourself that the odds are in your favour. Most lumps are nothing to worry about- and yet we do!!
Hi sb31,
I had a lumpectomy some months ago and lymph nodes removed, I finished my radiotherapy a few weeks ago and am now taking one day at a time. Hopefully the results will be good for you, but if not, all is not lost and what I would say is that it’s a shock when you are told and it is important you take a bit of time to let it register and sink in. The strides made in modern cancer medicine these days is amazing and they can do so much for you. However, there is so much you can do for yourself too.
You have made the first big step by finding the Macmillan site, also do visit your nearest Macmillan centre, a list is on here, or ring them on 0808 808 0000, they are superbly helpful and give you lots of great info, do walks, talks, help with benefits, bills, open 10-4 Mon-Fri for coffee and chat and lots more. Please also get a good support structure in place, family, friends, good work colleagues, I’ve lived on my own for nigh on forty years, but realised you can’t do this on your own. I also go for a short walk every day (British weather permitting) and do a daily diary, this is mega helpful, as it gets everything off your chest and out of your system. It is important during the day to keep yourself occupied, hobbies, interests etc., it stops you from dwelling on what is going on. You may also find it beneficial to listen to a meditation podcast, they really help you to relax especially when you are trying to get to sleep. I use one called ‘Go Gently’ by Christine Elizabeth Smith, it does a lot for me. Whatever you do, do not visit Dr Google as there is so much conflicting information, your head will spin and it will stress you out, listen to your medical team and you get great support on here.
I know it’s hard sometimes, but try and keep as positive as you possibly can, have positive people around you and dump the negativity, above all, be kind to yourself - I promise you, you will get through this. You are never alone and can always come and chat to us shower in here.
Keeping fingers and everything crossed for you.
Take care and big hugs.xxx
Thank you for replying. Sorry you waited so long. Oh bless you. Thanks for sharing. Good luck for your results, fingers crossed for you! Oh yes I keep telling myself it’ll be fine, then the worry creeps in x
Thank you for sharing. I am so sorry you’ve been through that & good luck with your recovery. Glad you’ve found some activities to help you in your journey. Hope you have been supported too. The forum replies here have been so lovely. I do love a meditation so will look at this. Thank you so so much. X
