Hi everyone, I had my first mammogram in March, recall to breast clinic and diagnosed with grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. Just over a week ago I had a partial mastectomy, lumpectomy and two lymph nodes removed and a reconstruction on the other side. I’m sore physically and mentally still trying to process everything. Since the surgery my thoughts and worries are, has it spread, will it go somewhere else, will it come back, what happens now? I never felt anything so was purely picked up by mammogram. I have lots of lovely friends but my Mum has dementia/Alzheimer’s and just want to talk to her about it but can’t for obvious reasons.  I think I e been told that 10 weeks after surgery radiotherapy starts. Is that normal?

  • Hi Anay75

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and that tour Mum has dementia. It’s not unusual for radiotherapy to start after that length of time as you need time to heal before having radiotherapy.

It’s perfectly understandable that you are worrying about what the future holds, we all go through it.

Wishing you the best of luck with radiotherapy.

    Best wishes

  • Hi, sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s scary and can feel overwhelming. I had a lumpectomy at the end of Feb and radiotherapy at the end of April. It sounds corny but taking one day at a time helped me. Prioritising getting over surgery was the first thing and then taking each step as it came along.
If you’ve got support near you, a Maggies Centre or something like that, perhaps pop along to get some support and to look after yourself.

take care and remember you’re not alone x
