Just wanted to say hi. I first had bc in 2007, went through surgery including a mastectomy, radiotherapy and chemo. Then had a local recurrence 6 years later, again surgery, chemo and rads. Now 10 years later I've just been diagnosed with another local recurrence, waiting to find out the treatment plan but they are making noises about "systemic treatment " which I'm guessing means chemo again.

So, ask me anything, happy to share previous experiences!

  • Hope reccurance isn’t too bad and your treatment plan isn’t too long a wait. I am waiting results as have an enlarged lymph node under arm same side as previous mc two years ago  (IDC 5mm) . I had a raised area under arm last year but ultrasound showed nothing. I just had ultrasound this year and it is showing an enlarged lymph node on same side as where I had raised area. Now I am worrying that I didn’t have chemo following my Mastectomy as oncotype didn’t register enough cancer. Have cat scan next week and results of biopsy following week. Back to the scary rollercoaster - any advice much appreciated.

  • Maybe they are thinking of a CDK4/6 inhibitor like palbociclib or ribociclib. I wouldn’t assume it’s chemo. Could you call your breast care nurse to clarify what systemic treatment means for you? X

  • Hi Zephyr,

Yes, you are right, it is palbociclib. The cancer is locally advanced and has grown quite a long way into the chest wall and under my ribs so is currently "technically inoperable" so I am having the targeted therapy to hopefully shrink it before some major surgery with a free flap reconstruction of the chest wall.

Still waiting to start treatment, my oncology appointment from Monday was cancelled so I have to wait till next Monday to meet the oncologist.

  • How are you doing SLou, any update or still waiting? I think the waiting is the hardest bit, once you start treatment it's just a question of keeping going on the treadmill.

I don't know enough about lymph nodes, is it possible that there's another explanation for the enlarged node, like an infection?

Hoping fir the best possible outcome for you. X

  • Thanks and hanging in there as we all know the waiting game is awful. Won’t find out until next week so trying to keep busy. At least they did another CT scan so I will have all the info at hand for my appointment- hoping and praying it’s ok. Xx
