My sister has just finished her treatment for breast cancer and thankfully it looks as though it has gone but she is now on estrogen blocking tablets for 5 years. Does anyone have any tips or advice I can giver her as I believe these may cause other problems for her.
Thank you
My oncologist told me to try and push through the side effects for four months. Hot flushes are the worst ever. I’m off mine now 3 months. Don’t know whether to start again or not, would be glad of advice too
Hi, I've been on letrozole for 2 years now. I get some achy joints from time to time, but I find if I keep exercising, mostly walking, that really helps keep me pain free. I have in and off hot flushes, but nothing major to be honest, maybe I am lucky. I was also advised to push through and give my body time to adjust. Best wishes to your sister.
Hi, it’s lovely that you are looking out for your sister, and well done to her for getting through all the treatment. I was told the same advice, to let your body adjust to the tablets. It can take a while. I have recently started oestrogen blockers too, and so far it has not been too bad. I am on Letrozole as post menopause. I get the odd hot flush, joint aches but all bearable. I also find exercising and walking helps a lot with the aches. Speak to her GP or breast care nurse if she finds they give her too many side effects and she can’t cope with them. They will most likely change them to another type. Wish you both well xx
I am 31/2 months into Letrazole. Finding it really hard with joint pain, hot flushes, anxiety etc.
I have been told about a magnet (ladycare) that helps with the flushes for some ladies - it’s early days but seems frequency and intensity of these is less… watch this space!
Also told by a pharmacist who knows I’m on Letrozole that I can try turmeric for the joint pain, which I will start and see.
But…anyone have any tips for the anxiety I now seem to have picked up?? Just seems to be taking over my life ️
Yes, - I’m getting a double whammy of hot flushes from forced menopause and Letrozole. It was an oncology nurse that said there’s been a Lot of success with the magnet. I have to agree.. not a cure but helping them become more bearable. Hugs x
Thank you for your advice. I don't know if it will help but I went into early menopause at 40 and had terrible hot flushes. I got acupuncture and it really helped. I am now 54 and haven't had any since then. The therapist did say I may need a top up in the future but so far so good.
Hi Palms, I take my tamoxifen in the evening. I do have hot flushes from them but I find i get those more over night. I do get them occasionally during the day too but not nearly as much as I would if I took the tablet in the morning. You could try a month having it say in the morning and see how you go, then swap to evening and see how you get on with that.
Wishing you all the best.
