I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July and had a lumpectomy done and sentinel lymph node biopsy on 2 lymph nodes . Yesterday I was told the lymph nodes were negative for cancer but the tumour they removed was 25mm so a stage 2 . They are now sending it off to get a genes test done to see if I need chemo or just radiotherapy. Am I more than likely going to need chemo or is there any other ladies on here with this type of stage 2 who only had to have radiotherapy please

  • honest answer? no one knows til you get the results.

have seen stage 1 need chemo and 3 not.

hang in there.  i am 2a so currently being poisoned (hugs)

  • Hi, i am stage 2b my lump when ultrasound was done was 21mm, grade 3 invasive ductual breast cancer oestrogen positive and her2 positive and has gone into 2 lymph nodes, so my plan is chemo then surgery then radiotherapy

  • I’ve had my surgery first that’s when they found the tumour was larger than they thought it was just want to get results back now to find out if chemo or radiotherapy and how long I’ve got to wait for treatment to start hate the waiting worst part of this cancer so far . Hope you don’t have to long now to wait and hope it all goes well xx

  • Bless you, I was diagnosed on 22nd June 23 with Grade 3 invasive ductual breast cancer oestrogen positive and her2 positive and had my 1st chemo on 11th July due to have my 3rd cycle on 23rd Aug and then have 3 cycles left, so it all moved quite quickly for me. So chemo then surgery then radiotherapy for me. Hope you get results soon so you know what happens next xx

  • I had my lumpectomy done and had expected to just have radiotherapy after. However my genetic oncotype test came back with a score of 29 and research had told me anything above 30 there was definite benefit to having chemo as well as radiotherapy so being so near husband and I decided to agree to chemo. Total shock to the system. Start of my journey I was told op radiotherapy all done by Christmas (diagnosed October). August 2023 And I am just finishing my 20 sessions of radiotherapy having had 7 cycles of chemotherapy beginning part of this year. The strange thing is that my lumpectomy was entirely successful and got all the cancer and there was no spread in lymph.

  • Hi, I had a lumpectomy last June to remove a 20mm Grade 2 tumour. My oncotype test result meant I needed radiotherapy only. I had 20 fractions of radiotherapy in total. I wish you all the best.

  • Hi KayMH

I was diagnosed last October with 25mm DCIS and 15mm IDC right breast. I had a lumpectomy and a second op a few weeks later to clear margins. I was ER positive and HER2 negative. My Oncotype score came back low at 15, so I only needed 5 intensive courses of radiotherapy. I now take Tamoxifen and will be on it for 5 years.

Good luck on your journey xx

  • Hi KayMH

I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer last September I also needed an extra test (oncotype DX) as I was borderline for chemo. Luckily I only required radiotherapy. Hope this helps.

  • Hi Kay, I had a lumpectomy for Stage 2 cancer (the tumour was described as sizeable at 33 mm) and most of my lymph nodes removed (the cancer was in the first node). Was offered the chance to take part in the Oncotype DX clinical trial. My score came back low so that meant that I did not have to have chemo - much to my relief. I went on to have 15 rounds of radiotherapy and I'm happy to say I survived. Finished the radio mid October last year and have now had my first mammogram since surgery and there is no sign of cancer!!

  • I’m really pleased your first mammogram has come back clear how long did all your radiotherapy go on for please
