Hi,

I am posting this on behalf my mum.

She is 55 & has just been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, although the lump has been removed and she is awaiting chemo the stats online for this particular cancer returning seems higher than some of the other breast cancers which is terrifying her.

Is there anyone else out there with triple negative breast cancer?

Or anyone who has recovered and surpassed the 5 years?

Hope to hear from you soon.

  • Hi there, how are you this morning?   I hope your arm feeling a bit better.  Hoping your doctor can sort things out for you.  I’m thinking of you and hope it goes well.  Xx

  • yes thanks...painful but we get it sorted .

  • Morning Ochno.

well yesterday's trip to clinic was not much productive.  sat in clinic an hour in cotton gown wen I got to see the dr I cudnt stand her to even touch it and she wanted to stick a needle in the swelling to release stuff ...she mentioned seroma or something sounding like that...

I said sorry no more needles and said I'd put up with it till I see consultant next Friday.

she ended up putting a clean dressing on and I left the clinic.

  • Oh no, how is it today, any better?   I’d guess it was a seroma and my understanding is that’s when you get a build up of fluid because it’s not draining properly due to op.  I think cure is usually local anaesthetic injected to numb then fine needle aspiration. Keep a close eye on it, it may improve on its own but if not I’d go back or to your own doctor.  If it gets hot it might be an infection, so that would definitely be a sign to go straight back.  Take care, keep me posted.

  • thanx I will...just strtd back on codocodomol today. the others wernt keeping pain away. does seroma go on its own or is it inevitable I have the needle drain . Will they need to put me out for the procedure.

  • Hola!   I think sometimes they’ll reabsorb.  I did have some swelling but that sorted itself out, not a lump as such just general arm swelling, nurse Pedro told me to keep up with exercises and do a bit of self massage once stitches out and that’s done the trick.

I think keep a close eye on it and if concerned it’s getting worse or heating up, go back.  I think they’ll just aspirate it with a shot of local anaesthetic.  I’ve had fine needle aspiration on a thyroid cyst before and honestly it wasn’t too sore at all.  If anything a relief from the pressure of the fluid, phew!

  • oh ochno thanks for your invaluable advice and experience of such matters . I too have thyroid but mine is under active been on thyroxine for millions of yrs it feels. but for my age of 73 I must not grumble. Good luck on ur next journey.  x

  • Off to Oncologist in Malaga tomorrow to discuss my treatment plan, bit nervous as to next stages but needs must.   Keep me posted with how it all goes for you, I hope your seroma settles down and you continue healing.  I think you’re only 2 weeks behind me on the journey.  I’m 3 weeks post op today x

  • hya Ochno

well had the seroma released yday 30ml the shringed out phew....sore afterwards but today its come back . taking new painkillers called Nefopam. plus paracetamol.  Clinic closed for weekend so no help from them . then they on strike Monday & Tuesday.

so guess I just have to put up with it and dull the pain .

how has ur oncologist app prospered.

  • Strange I was just thinking of you.  Good you had it drained, not good it’s come back and no clinic support.  I’d be inclined to go to your doctors surgery Monday and hopefully they could drain again there.  Best not to suffer.

my oncology appointment went very well.   Oncologist told me that post op pathology showed I’m actually not triple negative as first diagnosed just low on the scale so he’s treating me accordingly.  He’s put me forward for Prosigna testing to determine treatment plan.  Says it’s likely to be either chemo and radiotherapy or hormone treatment and radiotherapy depending on how high I score..  Go back on the 24th February to get results and treatment plan.  He was super lovely and breast cancer unit seemed really friendly and well run.  I’m reassured I’m in safe hands.  It’s all moving forward albeit a bit slowly.

keep taking your tablets and keep me posted as to,how you’re getting on.  Not long till you see your consultant, it’s all such a waiting game.

    take care xx
