Hi ,
I had my one year mammogram after treatment for stage 2 oestrogen positive breast cancer . Had lumpectomy , radiotherapy and take letrozole. I had the mammogram on 1st December but have heard nothing yet . Does the consultant send the results ? I dash to see the post every day and get myself into a state with an upset stomach and racing pulse. I could not enjoy Christmas because of the fear of going through it all again when I had just got my life back together . The postal strike might have delayed things and I keep thinking what if I missed an appointment because I didn’t get a letter . I am a wreck . I am too scared to phone for the results but maybe I will next week .
Hi, I think they see you face to face first. That's what I was told when I asked. Having to wait an extra week for results because of Christmas is annoying. We are always waiting for something. First day today where I have the house to myself to think and do nothing or whatever I want. It has put me off drinking not that I drink excessively. Things seem to taste different as well.
Prayers for some comfort when we get out results. Xx
Ho PatsyS welcome to the forum and sorry to hear how worried that you are. Can you think back to when you were first recalled ? Did it take a long time to get seen or not? I suspect it didn, t and I always now work on the basis that no news after the mammogram is good news otherwise you would have had a call or been re-called if there was anything showed up. That said I can appreciate totally where you are coming from. Why dont you give them a call and ask for the result and see if they can tell you over the phone to offer some re-assurance for you.
Thank you , yes you’re right . When I was recalled last year it was very quick and I got the letter on a Thursday for a Monday appointment which is why I was panicking about missing an appointment with the postal strike. Thank you for encouraging me to phone and find out the result and that probably would be the best thing to do but in all honesty I am scared to .
If I haven’t heard by next week then I will do . Maybe my new year resolution should be to deal with it and hopefully get some reassurance .
Hi PatsyS
I have just had my first year mammogram and was told if there was anything that needed checking out I'd get a phone call in 2/3 days otherwise I'd get the usual letter in the post which is what happened. It is such a horrible time waiting. I'm on patient led follow up
Just a thought, mine was due in December but I asked if I could bring forward to November as I didn't want it hanging over me for Christmas and they were happy to agree as the screening one which first identified my BC was in November. Perhaps you could ask for next year's to be brought a little forward to ensure you get outcome in good time ?
I'm sure you'd have heard by now if there was anything that needs checking as they are super cautious in this follow up period Sending hugs xx
Thank you so much for your reply and much needed hugs !
Next year I will definitely ask for mammogram in November . My treatment began in November too . That’s a really good idea to bring it forwards , the waiting is horrible and over Christmas too .
