Hi, just wandering how long people generally wait for surgery after receiving diagnosis and plan to operate? Looking at comment's on here, some people seem to get a date for surgery within 28 days after diagnosis and surgeon has agreed to operate. Just wandering how the waiting time has been for others. Thank you
Hi Jelly tots, sorry to hear you have a wait for your op. I was given my full diagnosis and treatment plan by my consultant and had my first op with her 2 weeks later. Due to a lymph node being positive I now have to have another surgery which is 2 weeks away to remove the lymph nodes. I am ER+/PR+ and HER2+ and was a grade 3 IDC. Maybe it depends on the type of cancer you have and the grade etc. I'm sorry I can't help more but I'm sure there will be others out there that maybe able to let you know how long their waits were. Good luck for your surgery, hope all goes well.

Hi Cuffcake
Many thanks for your reply & so sorry to hear that you have to have further surgery and I hope this goes well for you. Best wishes for a speedy recovery xxx
Hi Jelly tots
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I had chemo first to shrink the tumour then I had a operation about 5 weeks after I finished chemo.
Wishing you the best of luck with your operation and any future treatment your medical team puts you on.
Best wishes

Hi Daisy53
Many thanks for your reply and so sorry to hear that you had to have Chemo first, that must have been hard. Wishing you all the very best xxx
Hi
I was diagnosed 6/09/22 but not having my op mxt and reduction until the 28.11.22 .
this has been due to several bisopsies and then fish tests on the biopsies for HER2 .
all came back negative . Started on hormone blockers this week , to stop the eastrogen.
Feels like I’ve been waiting for ages as actually found it in July but then went away for 3 weeks so didn’t go to the GP until Late august .
Hi Lazy Daisy
Many thanks for your reply and cricky you are having a 3 month wait almost for your operation that is a very long time, you have my sympathy. I was beginning to feel that it was just me who had such a wait & yours is longer. My tumours were 8mm & 10mm an inch apart, ER Positive PR Positive invasive carcinoma with DCIS. HER2 negative. Total tumour in the end was 38mm.
I was advised to have a lumpectomy, then 5 days of radiation.
Best wishes for your operation & hope all goes well for you
Many thanks again
Hi Jelly Tots
i have queried my wait today as I went for my pre op. My bcn called me back to say yes it was a breach , but theoretically I am undergoing treatment ( letrozole) but she has said she will raise it as a concern with my consultant .
Hopefully she will get back to me tomorrow. x
Hi Lazy Daisy
GOSH, I hope something can be done to bring your operation forward for you. The waiting time is terrible. What size is your tumour if you don't mind me asking. I've been under the impression that brst cancer patients are generally told surgery within 4 weeks after diagnosis and decision to treat. I've been reading about the 31 & 62 day pathway. Fingers crossed your BCN gets back to you soon

Hi Jelly Tots, I was told that from diagnosis to surgery it would be no more than 6 weeks and it was exactly that. I was diagnosed 24 June (a day I will never forget!). Even on that day there was no wait in between. I had mammogram, ultrasound scan, biopsy one after the other, results were back in 1 hour and then I had to go back in to see the Consultant who delivered the devastating news and told me there and then what his plans were for me. My surgery was on 4 August then Oncotype test and then (2 week wait for results), then 15 rounds of radiotherapy given over 5 days which just finished last Wednesday. In between times there was not a part of me that was not checked over. I've had CT Scan, heart scan, bone density scan, xray. I have to say I have had first class service throughout. The longest wait was 3 weeks shielding between pre-op and surgery due to the rise in covid cases. I hope you get your date for surgery soon and dont have to wait much longer.
Hi .
you are going to be shocked with this 133mm x 113mm. Huge , over 5 inches . Grade 1 with splatterings of grade 2.
Let’s hope I hear today .
