Hello all, I have just recently been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma stage 2 and ER positive, had my surgery to remove 4 tumors and 4 lymph nodes, seen my surgeon this week and he was really pleased with how my right breast looked after the surgery, im seeing a oncologist tomorrow to discuss possibly needing to have chemotherapy before having radiotherapy and then medication for 5 years, it was a shock to say the least but I will and remain positive regarding this diagnosis. I feel I'm doing okay ATM not sure if it has really hit me yet? I just hope that I don't need to have chemotherapy but if I do then I will have to deal with this. I'm 54 years of age and a mother to 5 wonderful adult children and 13 grandchildren and a wonderful Husband so I know I'm blessed and this is what makes me strong xx
Hi, welcome to the group that no on wants to join. It sounds like your surgery went well and I hope you have good news from the oncologist this week. I love your positivity, that (I think) can really help. Best wishes
Hello and sorry you also find yourself here. I have a very similar diagnosis as you but with one tumour and one node removed. I am 56. I am now in the middle of chemo, just had my fourth of six. I have found they are a bit tough and you do have to prepare yourself psychologically, however for me, they haven’t been as bad as I dreaded and I can cope with them.
I read all sorts of stories about what it’s like and was anxious going into it but then realised like any other situation, people often seek help on forums when there are problems which is why I wanted to share a little of my experience to give you some positive reassurance should you need chemo. Good luck xxxx
Hi GotThis
Im so glad your getting through this positively and its going as good as it can.
I am 57 with a 24mm tumor and 2 nymph nodes removed 8 weeks ago but unfortunately i have to go back in for a scrap as my 6 oclock wasnt clear, i have had the American test and i only scored 6 so i havent got to have chemotherapy so hopefully they get the rest of my cancer out and i can start the radiotherapy and medication, but im concerned its been 8 weeks and still not been back in and when i have googled it says treatment should start within 3 months of surgery you any idea x
Hi again. Sorry you are still waiting. I was offered the test as part of a trial but decided to not have it. Everyone is different I know but part of my decision was causing delays. In your shoes, especially if you aren’t having chemo I would be chasing frequently to get back in for your margins to be done and then again to start your treatment. Easy to say when you feel vulnerable but sometimes you have to be quietly assertive, or at least gain some reassurance as to why you aren’t being seen. . Good luck x
Thank you i have been chasing from week 2 after my surgery but at to wait for first results 4 weeks then they did American test as i was on the boarder line for chemo waiting for them results even though i at to go in for my margin i was still waiting and chasing im now in friday they have eventually squeezed me in hopefully he gets it all this time x
