Hot flushes

Hi, I’ve had to stop HRT and am in Anastrozole which I think is the cause, but I have the hot flushes back with a vengeance- any suggestions?

  • Ive had to stop HRT too and I’ve been put on Fluroxetine and no hot flashes yet, maybe speak to your GP and ask for something else?

  • CBD oil might help you. Or a course of acupuncture. Avoid the things that make it worse like caffeine, alcohol, sugary food and drinks and spicy foods. And then a good supply of cool gel packs, fans etc until it passes you by. They are so frustrating and inconvenient aren't they? Hope it gets better soon. x

  • I’m managing with hand fans, damp towels around my neck and cold drinks. Hot drinks make it worse but caffeine doesn’t seem to affect me. At least this is a normal physiological process - that’s what I tell myself. It’s going to be bad this week, but least everyone will be hot so I’m in good company

  • Hi , lots of good suggestions already, I’d echo the acupuncture recommendation. I had a course of ear acupuncture at my nearest Maggie’s centre at Addenbrookes. It helped with the intensity of the hot flushes and also with my sleep (or lack of it!) and anxiety. As a bonus I met 2 lovely ladies there who I’m still in touch with and meet from time to time, I cal them my hormonally deranged friends! Love and hugs, HFxx

  • Definitely try the acupuncture…. It was a game changer for me.

  • I would also recommend acupuncture, though I am paying privately as I don't think it is offered where I am. It hasn't got rid of my hot flushes, but they don't come with the anxiety, claustrophobia and slight panic feeling that they did before. I'm also no longer anxious, especially at night, so I can sleep better. It's also calmed down the flashes of anger. I had 6 initial sessions weekly and am now doing once a month. I think with all the hormone therapy, the effects are less likely to last as you're constantly taking a pill. Bu the top ups are working.

I still have the hot flushes and use the usual things to help (dress in layers, fans, chillows) but I don't mind them so much and that has been the key for me. It makes them much more manageable. I think they are less frequent too, especially during the day.
