Hi , does anyone know what you can use while on chemo for constipation
You can use any of the usual laxatives- sodium docusate is the one I was prescribed by my chemo unit. I took it every day, including the day of the chemo, once a day until it worked which was usually 4-5 days later. I think its a combination of the chemo and the anti-sickness drugs that slows everything down. The other thing that can help is dried prunes if you can bear to eat them as they have natural laxative effects.

I have used licorice normally a small handful of licorice comfits in the morning and again at night something about the balance of sugar and licorice makes them easier to eat when feeling sick which normally works but you do need to make sure you drink lots and try and eat even when feeling sick or it doesn't work as well but I know a lot of people get a prescription for an over the counter one they always ask me if I need one whilst I'm having my chemo
I think the secret is to keep drinking water like all the time. But I also used liaxido which is quite pleasant to take. I only needed it a couple of times during chemo. I think constipation is one of the worse side affects … wishing you luck and hopefully things start to move easier for you xx
