I’m just feeling anxious that I’m going in for more surgery tomorrow. I’m having my mastectomy scar reopened and cancer recurrences removed and more tissue along the scar removed and sent to pathology.. Just finished doxerubin chemo and so glad to get that finished. I just feel that I have accepted my mastectomy scar and now I’m going back to square one…plus the dreaded drain. Am asking myself is there any end to this journey. It’s so hard keeping yourself positive and upbeat all the time. Just needed to put it down in writing knowing that others on here will feel my anxiousness.
Hello Whitestar,
I am sorry you are going through this again..... however, this is needed and once this operation is out of the way you can then begin to move forward.
You say you had just accepted your mastectomy scar ...... well, in a way, you have gone through the worst part (I mean this in a good way) - you have gone through this and can see the area etc - this time around you will understand it all the more - and to know this is needed.
In a few hours time all the worry and stress of the operation will be gone - finished and you will be on the road to recovery.
You can do this - at any time that your anxiety raises its head..... please, I know this will sound crazy .... but its true .....
when the anxiety flares up - say out loud if possible - I AM SO EXCITED, I AM SO EXCITED ...... even say it in your head - I am so excited.
Now the explanation ..... both feelings of anxiety and excitement come from the same part of the brain - so if you say 'you are so excited' ... your brain will believe this and change your anxiety feelings into excitement and this will feel more comfortable to you.
You are excited that you are having surgery - this time tomorrow it will all be done - You are so excited
We will be thinking of you xxxx
Hi White Star,
So sorry to hear that you are having more surgery. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow and for your recovery. Xx
Hi What Happened,
The anxiety/excitement thing is really interesting, is it based on scientific evidence and of so, any idea where I can read more about it?
It is scientific ...... I don't know why it is not talked about more to help people - but I have done it a few time and if I really say it meaning it I have felt the feelings turn to excitement. I will have a nosey around the internet to see if I can find anything.
When I have said it to others over the years - it starts like they think I'm just saying it .... but if you can believe it as you say it you feel the change even to the point of you will think why am I excited about this ..... I then throw in a 'good reason' ..... like in your case..... wowwww as soon as this is done this part is over with yahhhhhhy - 'it' will be gone yahhhhyyy
Thank you, not wishing my anxiety to hit but can't wait to try this.
Lovetowalk, your post made me laugh - I know what you mean. There is lots on the internet here's one for starters.....
This is a link to a magazine called Harvard, I believe is related to Harvard University
