After surgery the cancer in my breast was removed with clear margins but it was found in a sentinel lymph node. I've just had a CT scan and am waiting for a bone scan, after which, the consultant has recommended chemo even if it's not metastasised, which U'm fine with. What I want to know is what are the chances that it has metastasized if I still feel completely well? There was no evidence of cancer in my lymph nodes in the initial ultrasound and I think it's microscopic. Each time I get the results at an apppointment I start to get over the shock by gradually assuming the best as it's how I sort of cope, but each time I'm given the answer I was hoping not to have and am back to square one. In fact its obviously far worse than quare one each time as there's less and less hope. I feel perfectly normal physically, so will it really have spread that far? I don't see the oncologist with all the results for a month. Thank you for any light that can be shed on this.
Hi. I’m going through the same thing. Hope you’re ok? It’s so hard isn’t it?
I had been told grade 3 invasive duct cell carcinoma. Had lumpectomy and they removed 1 lymph node only due to ultrasound saying they looked clear. Managed to remove lump which was bigger area than originally thought but clear margins but lymph node positive. Had ct scan and bone scan and waiting for results. So scared! Waiting is so hard and like you said every time you go for results it’s not what you hoped for.
what a rollercoaster we are all on?!!
Want the results so I can move on but so scared about what they will tell me.
let’s hope we all have some positive news and we can deal with whatever we are dealt with x
Sorry I can’t be of more help but, I’ve realised no one can tell us the answers until the results are in. That’s really helped me calm down. No amount of anxiety is going to change what’s going to happen next x
The scan sounds more like a precaution (I am basing this on you saying, "a sentinel lymph node," and not using the plural,) but the honest truth is that there is no way to say with 100% certainty unless they look. They tend to be very thorough, which is great because we wouldn't want them to miss anything, but it does have the unfortunate effect of leaving us with more to be anxious about until we get the results, and they tend to try and avoid answering questions that require them to "best educated guess."
Have you been given an appointment for the bone scan?
Thanks for your reply. No appointment for bone scan yet. I think they only managed to get the one lymph node. I'm (I feel) as fit as ever. Out washing the car this morning and thinking how it just doesn't seem to make sense.
Hi greenqueen
whilst they can never tell for sure without scans, I would just say that there are plenty of people with spread to lymph nodes (I had it in four, grade 3) whose body scans come back clear. It’s pointless saying trying not to worry but I’d aim to stay neutral and not panic as it’s likely just lymph node spread and no further.
good luck xx
Keep yourself busy and distracted. That’s the best thing to keep your mind occupied with other things.
im out walking in the lovely sunshine! Received my letter this morning from the hospital. I have an appointment on Wednesday afternoon to go through my scan results!!!
I hope you get your bone scan done soon so you nice on to the next steps. Good luck x
