I’m new here so hi everyone, recently diagnosed after a routine mammogram and operation very quickly so finding it hard to get my head round everything, even tho it was only stage 1. How do I learn to be ‘normal’ again?
Thank you x
Hi
I was diagnosed like you at routine mammogram stage 1 grade 1 as good as it gets really. It’s still a huge shock.
Are you having any other treatments? I had partial breast radiotherapy and am on Letrazole.
The best advice I can give you is take one day at a time… stay away from Google and know that we are all here to support you on your way back to a new type of normal
.Best wishes x
Hi
You've come to the right place for support. I would say take time to 'breathe ' and take one day at a time. I'm not sure if you are due to have any more treatment but try and keep yourself busy. I'm now 6 months past finishing chemo. I went back to work 2 and half months after finishing chemo, not all people can do this. I felt my chemo side effects were manageable and for my own sanity I needed some 'normality '. I did a phased return to work. I do get tired but this helps ME feel some kind of normality. I also do my crafty things.
Hope this helps

Hi Claire, thank you for replying I am just waiting for my radiotherapy but not sure how much I need yet. I haven’t needed chemo so, other than half a day for my op I haven’t needed to take any sk which helps keep things normal but I’m tired!
I hope your employer is supportive
Great news that your nodes were clear.
If you have any radiotherapy queries in the future I’m happy to help if I can as I was a radiotherapy radiographer for 35 years.
I hope you get your dates soon as you will feel better when you have a plan
Take care
Hi Tina's
I had same as you Grade 2 but early and small at 8mm so stage 1. No lymph node spread and no lymphovascular invasion. Two weeks post 5 sessions of whole breast RT
I had 2 weeks off for surgery and 2 weeks off for RT but worked rest of time and have found it helpful. Working at home helped as no travel and very supportive emoyer.
Now 2.5 months into Anastrozole .okish but do get tired ..not surprising after the past 3 months ! It is hard to get my head round it and have my end of treatment review discussion on 7th March exactly 3 months after my surgery on 7th December. Feels both unreal and surreal and will take time
Best wishes xx
Hi Tinks
I was also diagnosed after routine mammogram Aug 21. That was really scary. Had lumpectomy in Sept. Grade 2 hormone +, 15mm, lymph nodes clear. Developed haematoma which delayed treatment. Had radio in Jan 22 and on Letrazole. Just returned to work on a phased basis. Great employer. Im a teacher.
NHS been amazing but still huge shock. Finding dealing with perimenopause symptoms harder now. Disturbed sleep, hot flushes, tearful for no reason. Feeling really tired.
Keep sane reading, crafting, sewing and getting out and about. You may find out out you're stronger and more resilient than you ever thought you could be!
Still feel lucky I didn't need chemo.
X
Hi Cass22
thanks for the words. I agree, NHS have been amazing! From call back after mammogram to operation was 2 weeks, I can’t complain at all. Still waiting for radiotherapy info so don’t know how much I need yet.
take care x
