Hi,  at the very beginning of of diagnosis so don’t have much information yet, had routine mammogram and got a call back this week where I had further checks and biopsy taken,  was told they were 99% certain it cancer,  have been through this just 4 years ago with my husband who had bowel cancer, I know the drill in a way so the process has not been anything new to me.  The waiting game is the worst bit so far,  another week before I go back for results of biopsy and treatment plan.  The hospital I have to go to is an hour away from me,  may have the option to switch to one closer to home but how do you decide ?  I guess not everyone has an option but I really don’t know what to do,  depending on what future treatment I will need closer to home would be best but I don’t want to confuse or delay anything by changing at the moment.          Chris

  • Dear , I have an hour to my nearest hospital with no other option, bit rubbish isn’t it. I would wait until you know exactly what the diagnosis is . If it is as suspected then get your treatment plan and then ask if you are best at the original hospital or the one nearer to you. You may find they will suggest the one to have your treatment at . With covid and the winter looming I would go with your teams suggestion. But definitely up to you . Rather than distance I would go with which hospital could treat you quicker and the best .

I am 3 yrs with no evidence of disease. While I was waiting we were able to “run away”  we visited family and had a cheeky foreign break ( not a holiday more an escape ) but that’s not so easy these days and everything seems to be slower . You have had a tough few years . I hope everything goes smoothly for you as you definitely deserve it.

    Love

Hi Ruby Rose,  thank you for your reply, yes I guess I need to wait for my next appointment and see what my treatment will involve and what they suggest, I would love to get away,  have been at work during the week and found that took my mind of things ,  weekend has not helped ,  glad to hear you are 3 years clear,  my husband is 4 years now although he only had his last operation 8 months ago.  Chris x

Hi Chris, i think everyone has a choice about which hospital to go to. I asked for a list of the hospitals I could choose from and decided against my local one; I looked at the CQC ratings for them and based my decision on that and advice from friends who had been through breast cancer treatment themselves. www.cqc.org.uk/.../find-hospital

Wishing you all the best x

Thank you Katherine,  I will have a look at the list, I have a friend of a friend who I know is currently undergoing treatment but she has a connection to my daughter and I can’t risk speaking to her yet as I don’t want to tell my daughter until I know what I am dealing with , Chris x
