Pre-diagnosis query

Hi everyone, new to the forum and not yet got a diagnosis and  this will now be delayed up to six weeks. In short I found a breast lump saw consultant had mammogram, three biopsies on lump under ultrasound and they put a marker on site, then had second mammogram. Then saw consultant again who told me mammogram had shown microcalcifications that were not there on mammogram four years earlier and now need stereotactic biopsy under mammogram on those. He won’t give me results from biopsy on lump until he’s seen results on microcalcifications.  Struggling with added unanticipated delay to knowing anything and can’t find any information on having both these things going on in the same breast and what that might mean. I’m a ‘need to be informed’ person and so I feel very much in the dark.

Has anyone experienced this or know of anyone who has please?  Any info greatly appreciated.

  • Dear

Sorry to hear you have a long wait , I would definitely phone the breast care nurses to ask why ? Explain the cruelty of the wait.

    • My face looks better when I smile - so smile it is !
  • Thank you Ruby Rose Rose, I’m obviously naïve as I don’t know who the breast nurses are xx

Hi MickeyM sorry to have met you here. It's very worrying when you don't have information. There are breast care nurses attached to breast cancer assessment units and hospitals. You can phone the unit you saw the consultant at and ask to be put through to one of them. Hopefully they should be able to explain things to you and help you through this waiting time.  Wishing you all the best x

  • Thank you Katherine, I feel so naive and out of control x hope you’re ok and thank you for responding xx

  • Hi  MickeyM it is ok to feel out of control most of us do this journey is not an easy one so hang in there and we will be here for you every step of the way. x

  • Thank you Gail.  Six weeks is surely a long time to have to wait xx

  • I had the exact same scenario in 2013. I had all that you described in the November and had to wait all over Christmas until Feb 9th 2014 to get the results. In the end it was just cysts and microcalcificatiins at the time. Which was great but the wait was awful. They said it was because they wanted to be thorough.

What I will say though is if your results come back and there is nothing wrong, make sure they monitor you regularly and when they do, demand an ultrasound as well as a mammo.

My cancer did not show up on 5 subsequent mammograms even the most recent in June. I was diagnosed with TNBC in July. It was 8.5cm. if I had demanded ultrasound checks as well as mammos they would have picked it up sooner.

I don't envy you the worry but try not to. It's a waste of energy. It's the worst bit. Hopefully it is all nothing to worry about but if it is cancer know that once you find out, everything becomes easier to cope with.

Good luck and keep us posted.

  • Hi there and thank you so much for taking the time and care to respond to me.

I’m so sorry to hear about your recent TNBC diagnosis - I hope you have your treatment well under way by now and sorry it you’ve talked about this in another post and I’ve missed it.  I am wondering how you are getting on though?

Do you mind me asking if you also had the stereo mammo and if so whether you had to wait like me for all the results before they told you it was cists that time?

As I said my consultant said I would get the stereo mamo within two weeks and that he wouldn’t give me results from biopsies on my lump until he had the microcalcifications biopsy results also - ballpark six week wait, which I was already struggling with.  Just got my letter for ‘upright stereo mammo’ apt on 16th November - I’m in meltdown, that’s two months not two weeks!!!!

    thanks for being there xx
