Just been diagnosed with breast cancer suppose to see my consultant but the appointment has been cancelled so i have to wait another 10 days the days are not to bad but the nights are a nightmare as i lay awake for hours just thinking about it going out of my mind
Hello Age63,
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and sorry to hear about you having to wait the extra 10 days (which can seem an age). A similar thing happened to me when my consultant’s appointment was put back but I gave the hospital a ring and the very understanding receptionist managed to re-jig appointments and get me seen sooner. Please give it a try; even if it’s one less sleepless night, it would be worth it.
I know how you are feeling as I am the same. Days are ok as work and kids keep me busy but nightime I lay awake for hours. I have my core biopsy results Thursday but had to wait 6 weeks for my first appt after GP told me I would be seen within 2 weeks, I was going out of my mind. This group has been amazing for me and very supportive. Even though the consultant said the lump is about size 50p and highly suspicious, I am trying to stay positive and still hoping it not cancer but if it is cancer, then I know this forum will be my lifeline for support.
Take care x
Hi Age63
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m also sorry to hear that your appointment has been cancelled and that you have to wait another 10 days before you see your consultant.
Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment when it starts.
Best wishes

Hi Age 63 that's how old I was last June when I found my lump. It's a difficult time the early days isn't it? I found the nights hard and instead of trying to get to sleep I just used to do something and in no time that made me feel tired enough for sleep. There are some nice medication tapes on YouTube you could try if you have a TV in your room and set the timer for about 30 mins that might help. Things should move quickly now between surgery and treatment . My surgery 7 weeks ago took 7 and a half hours I was so surprised to feel good after it ! Just had a call this afternoon for a clinic appointment with oncologist to see if I need Chemo or radiation . This last 7 weeks I have deluded myself that all sorted now and that might be the case but I'm prepared for whatever she says . This has been a rollercoaster of a ride and it's not over yet. The first weeks are the worst you will start to process everything soon and I hope it's all good news
Cheers
Jayne X
Hi glad you felt a lot better after your surgery hopefully i will too then as you say its just waiting to see if more treatment is needed finger crossed for you i think i will be OK once it all gets started by knowing my date for the surgery x
Hi 63
Yes as soon as you get that date you will feel better . I waited about 3 weeks for my surgery and I was counting down the days . Remember that the treatments are very good. That said it's going to be a challenge for me at least . I'm just hoping that Thursday will go well and even if it's chemotherapy that it won't be too bad. after all Christmas is coming and I have things to do ! Grandchildren to buy for . Look after yourself I hope the last few days waiting will go quickly and you will have a nice straightforward plan .
Take care
Jayne
