I am going to have a mastectomy on my left breast on Tuesday, just wondering has anyone else been through this and could give me any advice on what to expect after, thank you
Yes it will be fine not very painful at all . You can usually go home in a few hours and district nurse will call if you have a drain and sometimes to check the scar is healing nicely. You will be up and about in around 3 days but take it easy. Keep taking the paracetamol for at least a week and make sure you do your excercise every day . It will feel strange to see your scar but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. Have lots of food in the house so you don't need to go shopping , very important that you keep dodging Covid ! The nurses will fit you with a faux breast and bra before you leave the hospital so you won't look any different to anyone else.
Look after yourself the hard part has already been done. ( the waiting)

I can honestly say it will not be as bad as you fear. You will soon be home and although the drain seems strange , you soon get used to it. They may give you a bag to keep it in. Just give yourself a gentle few days, with time for the exercises. I am small busted so didn’t wear a bra for a few days, but l was given a soft “ breast” to wear.
All the best for a speedy recovery.
Lol cupboardlove. Best wishes for the 28th I will be thinking about you both . Don't be scared really no need .when they told me that I would be up and about in a couple of days I thought they were crazy but they were right and I'm no spring chicken 64 . Just think you go off to sleep with a tumor in b your breast that could kill you and you wake up and it's gone . Now that can't be bad the worst bit is over now almost the 28th X
Take care
Jayne

Pleased you sound upbeat ! Remember fear is not fact , someone said that on here this week ! If you like me when they come to discharge you and they tell you all tumor and involved lymph nodes are out ,that's when I started to cry !
