Hello everyone. I've just joined up! Am living in beautiful Norfolk, have not had cancer, but have the BRCA2 mutation. I lost my Mother to ovarian cancer coming up for 4 years ago, have already had a hysterectomy,  and am heading towards a risk reducing bilateral mastectomy hopefully next year.  Am really interested in people's experiences regarding having a reconstruction or not. I know it's a highly personal decision,  but would like to know how others got on with deciding whether the reconstruction was right for them. Thankyou, nice to meet you all!!

  • Hi , so sorry about the loss of your mum. I can’t  help with your query as I had a lumpectomy but just wanted to pop on to say a very warm welcome to the forum. If you don’t get specific responses it might be worth posting again with a heading which mentions what you’re after eg ‘Reconstruction or not? Please advise’ - or something like that. It’s a busy forum which is great but means sometimes posts are missed or not seen by those with experience in a particular area. Also, I could be wrong but think there might be a BRCA2 group here somewhere? If so it would be worth posting your query there as well. There are definitely lots of folk in this group who have had reconstructions of various sorts so I’m sure you’ll get a lot of shared experiences.

Wishing you well and sending love and a big virtual hug your way. HFxx

    Hi plan

Again I haven't had that decision to make although Mondays results may be a different story, at 54 I could possibly be looking at a single mastectomy, you can read a lot of information about mastectomy on the Macmillan website, I have 99% decided on no reconstruction, for a number of reasons, the biggest I just want my life back to normal as quickly as possible.

If you post under treatment and diagnosed you will fi D a lot of ladies will be able to help you. FB has a private flat friends group who may be able to give some advice aslo
