Good evening everyone. This is my first post but I have been reading lots of comments during the past six months of living with breast cancer.  I've had a sentinel node biopsy, a mastectomy with skin conserving, 4 cycles of paclitaxel and am on my fifth Herceptin injection.  The cold cap worked for me and I have had relatively minor head hair loss.  I now want to resume swimming but am afraid of the effect of the chemicals in the pool water on my hair.  Does anyone have any advice or experience to share?  And thank you so much to everyone for sharing generally. On many occasions I have found reassuring advice and comments here.  Thank you all.  Annaree

  • Hi

I didn't have chemo so I can't answer your question, but by answering I'm bumping your post back to the top of the pages in case anyone is around who can help you now.

I wonder if you would feel comfortable wearing a swimming cap for the time being as you're concerned about the effect of chemicals if no one know for sure?

    Best wishes, Lesley

  • The cold cap is good with paclitaxel - mine started growing back after losing a lot with EC (the worst!). Could you contact Cancer Hair Care and ask? I'd be tempted to cover it in good conditioner suiatble for chemo, as I'd worry wearing a silicone cap would pull the roots, but I'd check. Contact details: www.cancerhaircare.co.uk/
