I’m due to speak to the gp for my referal tomorrow I feel sick to my stomach my nan had cancer and my mum has had breast lumps that are currently benign I suffer severe anxiety and cancer sleeo can’t focus have lost my appetite and can’t focus. Anyone who’s been in this situation can you give advice on any tools to help? I don’t want to feel like this until I get results

  • Hi , I am so sorry you find yourself here.  The stage you are at is the toughest bit, it can be absolute torture.  What helped me was being on this site and reading all the success stories - if you click on peoples names you can read their stories if they have posted one.

Other than that try and keep yourself busy doing absolutely anything even if it's just watching TV.  Some people find meditation helps with a few saying the Headspace app was good.

I lost my appetite too when I was waiting to get my results.  The only way I could get food into me was by drinking smoothies and having some toast at the same time.  I just couldn't swallow anything solid.

Breast cancer is very treatable these days with a high success rate so try to focus on that.  Hopefully you are given the all clear though.

    Wishing you all the best.

  •  I know it's hard but remember you are not a clone of your mother or Nan.  You have different genes so it's not a forgone conclusion.

I lost my mother age 61 to bowel cancer in 1988.  Her sister died of bowel cancer a few years previously just age 47.  My gran had  breast cancer age 70 &  74 before dying age 90 in 1990.   Then 9 years ago I lost my eldest sister to brain cancer age just 59 so when I got diagnosed in 2015 I was terrified but I'm still her knocking around.  I took comfort in friends who had been successfully treated for breast cancer ansd the fact my gran, my mothers cousins had all been treated successfully in a generation where treatment was not as good as it is now.   Breast cancer is very treatable its benefitted hugely from fundraising & research funding.

Often is it not needed to be treated by removal ?
