Hi,
I have just had a second operation to remove lymph nodes (4 June 2021) following the finding and removal of an 11mm cancerous tumour & DCIS in April. The DCIS was discovered after a follow up appt after my first ever mammogram in February.
Another 4 week wait (minimum) for results, however the care I have experienced is amazing.
It is a scary time and currently painful as I recover from surgery - just trying to stay positive, getting out walking for fresh air & exercise hoping it will help me sleep!
Next steps will apparently be radiotherapy & tablets for 5-10 years - however also going through menopause - anyone else in this situation?

Hi Jule17, I also had a tumour and some DCIS. I think the whole area was maybe just over 2cm. Mine was removed in one go along with 4 lymph nodes which were clear. So I had radiotherapy and am currently taking tamoxifen for 5 years. I'm perimenopausal so oncologist is expecting me to need to switch the tablets I take about half way through the 5 years.
Radiotherapy was fine (mine was five day intensive one) and taking tamoxifen has also been fine with no side effects.
Make sure you do your arm exercises daily and preferably more than once a day as for radiotherapy you will need to be able to rest your arm above your head.
Sounds like they should hopefully have got all the cancer out second time around as it wasn't a big area so try not to worry. Do you know yet wether you will need chemo? Don't panic if you do as most ladies seem to find it very doable. Hopefully you don't.
Hope you get your results back soon and that they are good.
Wishing you all the best x
Hi GodWilling
Thank you so much for your reply! I am being told I will have radiotherapy for 5 days providing the results from lymph node removal is clear - which is apparently what is expected!
I am doing the exercises, currently the first week ones - so no lifting my arm above my head yet!
Great advise - thanks for taking the time to respond - I guess they will monitor the meds along with my menopause!
Stay safe & well
