Hello, i have a 8mm breast tumour that is HER2. I’m therefore having chemo. I’m struggling so much with side effects after just one treatment. It has knocked me for six. I’m self employed and am having to work when all i want to do is hide away until October!
can anyone help with how i can cope with sore oesophagus when i eat? Also my armpits and pubic area have developed a huge rash which is so itchy and sore - is that normal with chemo.
I’m really struggling to cope and any advice would be most gratefully received.

Hi Wildflowerdawn,
Sorry to hear you’re having these terrible side effects. Could the sore oesophagus be related to reflux/heartburn? I know a lot of people get this with chemo, including me. I now take a daily lanzoprezole tablet (or try Omeprazole). Gavison helps too.
The skin on my face broke out once then I changed my skin care regime (to using micellular water not soap). There are lots of different creams for sensitive skin. Are you able to phone your BC Nurse for advice? She might be able to give you the best help, or suggest a prescription medication, as it sounds quite bad. You could also phone your GP. Maybe an anti-histamine but I would definitely think about contacting a medical professional.
Some people are working through chemo but I know I couldn’t. Luckily I’m on full pay from work but will be going on to half pay soon. The Macmillan benefits advice service has been great. They can really help you financially.
People will give you some really helpful advice about dealing with Side Effects on the June chemo thread. Link below.

Hope you manage to get some relief soon.

Hi Wildflowerdawn
Sorry to hear that you are having treatment for breast cancer and that the side effects are giving you a hard time. As Bluebell said the sore oesophagus could be acid reflux. I got it during my chemo and my medical team upped my dose of Pantoprazole which helps my acid reflux.
Wishing you the best of luck with the rest of your treatments and be kind to yourself.
Best wishes
