Hi Springatlast,
I had 6 rounds of chemo which shrank the tumour. I then went on to have surgery. I chose mastectomy over lumpectomy and my lymph glands were clear. Around the same time as surgery, PN appeared; painful, stabbing pins and needles in my lower arms. The oncologist said it was a delayed side effect of chemo, nothing to do with surgery. He explained that it is common for the side effects of chemo to appear some time after chemo has finished and they can linger for some considerable time afterwards.
He prescribed Amitriptyline which took a couple of weeks to kick in but is now working fine. No more sleepless nights with horrendous PN which no painkiller off the shelf seems to touch.
You have had major surgery and I think it is normal to feel fatigue for some time afterwards; parts of me hurt and ached for a long time afterwards. Keep doing the exercises, keep doing the short walks but be kind to yourself. Allow your body chance to recover.
But don’t suffer PN unnecessarily. Get in touch with your oncologist and ask for help. PN is a common side effect after chemo and they can prescribe medication to get you through.
Best wishes

Hi Springat Last
i got Peripheral Neuropathy after about my fifth treatment. It didn’t get any worse for me after I had lumpectomy and lymph node clearance. Keep going out for your short walks and keep doing the exercises for you arm. Be kind to yourself and rest when you need to.
