Hello. I’m just sucking up all the info I can after a gp appt yesterday. I’m 52 and found a lump in left breast about 2 months ago, I thought it was probably nothing so let it be but decided yesterday to ring gp. So now I’ve been referred to the breast clinic as urgent and can’t stop thinking about it despite knowing it’s probably benign. It’s a long shaped, not round,  1.5cm lump. My breast feels odd too with aches and pains I don’t usually have and I have a sensation of swelling or thickness in armpit and down the side of my chest, although it doesn’t  look or feel swollen to touch. It feels as if I’m carrying something tucked up under my arm if you know what I mean. So now I have the wait for the appointment while trying not to panic.

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum - albeit, I'm sure you'd much rather not be here.  You are in the worst possible stage of diagnosis or non diagnosis at the moment.  The waiting and wondering is always the worst part.

The appointment shouldn't be too long as they usually like to see you within a couple of weeks.  Then, you have the wait for the results again!  It's an awful time and there's nothing you can do except like you say, try not to panic.

Even IF it turns out to be cancer - it's not the end of the world, I promise you.  Treatments for BC keep on developing and and getting better all the time. I'm 4 years down the line and apart from a scar on my breast, daily tablets and popping on here - my life's no different now from when I was diagnosed.

Please don't use Google for research - use Macmillan, Breast Cancer.org or Cancer Research UK as a lot of other sites are woefully out of date and some full of absolute rubbish!

Keep us posted with how your appointment goes - fingers crossed you come back on here and say that it all was fine!

    Best wishes, Lesley

  • Hi Staceydy

Once you are referred to the Breast Clinic you are seen fairly quickly.

Breast Cancer is very treatable these days if you do get it which hopefully you won’t. For me the waiting to have my diagnosis confirmed was the worst as I strongly suspected I had Cancer that it was a relief to have it confirmed. Try keeping yourself busy while you are waiting for your appointment by doing the things you love doing.

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment.

    Best wishes
