Hi I am new to the group. I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having a mastectomy on June 1st. The only thing I am worried about is the nuclear ex-ray I have to have the same day. Is it very painful?
Hi
Not sure about an X-ray on the day of your mastectomy - but you will have an injection of radioactive dye into your boob so that during the operation they can follow the dye to your sentinel nodes under your arm. These are always removed and tested to see if there is any spread there. If there is spread they will often advise that you have all of your lymph nodes removed (but not always nowadays )
Someone else may know more about a possible X-ray, but if you at all unsure ring your breast care nurse or your surgeons secretary and ask for a more detailed explanation. It must be really difficult now to go to appointments alone and try to remember everything.
