I am new to here and not sure where to start. I was diagnosed with breast cancer lobular invasive in Feb 21 . Had a mastectomy 5 weeks ago and the diep flap failed so no reconstruction atm. This affected me quite a bit. Had to go back a week ago for auxillary clearance and I now feel I have gone backwards with my recovery. My arm and armpit is quite painful and numb. Especially towards the end of the day. Trying to do the excersises as I have read this should help but doesn't feel it atm. Will get my results in a couple of weeks as to chemo or radio therapy. I feel quite down atm with the whole process. I am just wondering if anyone has any further advice with the pain in the arm and how to relieve it? Also has anyone had cancer in lymph but not had chemo or is chemo more likely if it has gone into lymph?
Hi Stren70
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you are having a tough time of it at the moment. While it may take a while things will get better in time. Did you get a prescription for painkillers from the hospital before you went home? If not or as the painkillers you have don't seem to be working contact your Breast Care Nurse to ask for a prescription for stronger painkillers.
Chemo is more than likely if there is cancer in the lymph nodes. I was diagnosed with Triple negative Breast Cancer last September and as well as in my left breast there was cancer in my lymph nodes so I had to have chemo. While chemo is not easy it is doable and you will get plenty of support from your oncology nurses. You will be get anti-sickness tablets to take to help with any side effects and if they don't work you will be able to contact your oncology nurse and they will either adjust the chemo dose or your anti-sickness meds.
Just take it one day at a time and I am here if you have any further questions or just need to talk.
Best of luck with your treatment.
Best wishes
Daisy
Thank you for replying Daisy53. Im taking cocodmol and ibuprofen . Today is not as painful as yesterday but ill see tonight as that when it seems worse . I could call the breast care nurses tomorrow if its as bad. I definately had a low day yesterday but today seems a bit better. Maybe becsuse I've reached out today on here. I am a bit worried about if I have to have chemo but at the same time preparing myself for it. Ill wait and see when I get my results. Thank you for sharing your experience too it has helped alot.
Hi, I too had lobular cancer with mastectomy and lymph nodes removed. My oncologist stated that my type of cancer (lobular and er+) did not respond well to chemo and the side effects far outweighed the benefits for me. I, therefore, have just had radiotherapy. Try not to do too much with your affected arm as even carrying heavy objects can cause a problem. Take painkillers when they are due, do not wait for the pain before taking them.
Thanks lesley63 for the information. I'm sorry about your diagnosis too and hope your treatment is going well . As you say I've kept on top of pain killers today and it has been better. Hopefully tomorrow will be better too.
Mine is er+ so maybe i will be the same as you. I've got results in a couple of weeks so will go from there.
Thank you both x
