Hi I never thought I would be posting on a forum like this, I am 36 years old and was diagnosed with Grade 3 invasive breast cancer about 8 weeks ago. I am now 2 weeks post op had a mastectomy with reconstruction and because of the grade and size of the tumour am awaiting chemo and radiotherapy to start in the next few weeks, which feels alien since they told me I’m now cancer free.

feel like I’ve been to hell and back already but looks like the worst is yet to come! I haven’t met my oncologist yet so I’m not sure about my chemo just been told it’s 6 cycles followed by radiotherapy.

Anyway just wanted to say Wave

  • Chemo is not as bad as you imagine I have had almost six months worth and I have lived my normal life, yes you may have side effects but mind of matter wins.

Thanks for this people keep telling me horror stories it’s honestly making me think twice about going through with it, keep thinking since the cancer is gone why put myself through hell for nothing?

  • Hi Schittscreek

Sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. While chemo can be hard at times it is doable. I was diagnosed with Triple negative Breast Cancer last September and had eight cycles of chemo before having my lump and two nodes removed. I didn’t have too many side effects during my treatment, the worst side effect I had was losing my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes.

There is plenty of support out there. You will be given contact numbers for your oncology nurses before you start your treatment and you can contact them if you are feeling really ill and they will adjust the strength of your chemo to help lessen any side effects that you may have. You will also be given a prescription for anti-sickness meds to take after your treatments if you need them.

Wishing you all the best for your treatments.

    Best wishes

Thanks for your reply can I ask how long it took for your hair, eyebrows and eyelashes to grow back?

  • It took about six weeks for my eyebrows and eyelashes to grow back. My hair is still growing back but the bald look has gone off my head.
