Hello All, I never thought I’d ever write in a forum as I’m quite shy but then I naively thought I’d never get breast cancer.

It’s been so comforting reading questions people have asked because I don’t feel so alone in how I’m feeling, my worries & concerns.

I had my left breast & 23 nymph nodes removed 5 weeks ago.
Question: I am still in a huge amount of pain under my arm & very tight across my chest. Some days I don’t feel like I’m making progress, is this normal to still have all this pain?

  • The pain will go but it takes time. If paracetamol doesn't work ask for something stronger for a while. Try a pillow or cushion under the arm it helped me. Hope you feel better soon and don't worry as there is plenty of support if you need it.

I took a while before my head cleared - but it did eventually.

I had the same surgery as you in December, as has already been mentioned it does take time to heal and to find a balance between making sure you exercise your arm and not doing too much, believe when I say I know!

Even now I still over do things and wonder for a few seconds the next day why my arm aches.  Yes aches the pain does go.

All I can say is the exercises do help and you will get there.  Make sure to talk to your BC nurse about the pain and ask them to check everything is healing ok if your concerned about it, but it does take time.

Try not to be too hard on yourself this journey is not one any of us though we would be on but here we are and we will get through it.

    Take care x
