Diagnosed with breast cancer March 2020. Had lumpectomy, chemo & radiotherapy & finished treatment in Dec 2020. Started on Letrozole but due to side effects have changed to Anastrozole. Had Zolendronic acid infusion in Feb which will be every 6 months. I am suffering from an extremely dry mouth during night & wake up hourly & have to drink lots of water. I am wondering if this is happening to anybody else & if it is the medication, infusions or even a delayed reaction from radiotherapy?

  • Hi

I wonder if it's a combination of all your treatments causing this.  I'm on Anastrozole and not particularly noticed this side effect, but here's a link to more information suggesting it could be the chemo. and Anstrozole side effects.   There's also a few suggestions on here as to how to help they symptoms.

    Best wishes, Lesley

    Hi

I've had both Tamoxifen and Anastrozole (9 yrs ago) and don't remember having a dry mouth.  I did have several other side effects.

I've recently been prescribed Letrozole but, after only 9 days, I was having severe joint/muscle issues (enough to compromise radiotherapy, due to start 4 May / Planning next week - read my profile, as complicated ;) ) so I stopped taking them, last Friday, after taking only 11 tabs.  I'll try again (different manufacturer) after radiotherapy is completed.

For other reasons, ie different meds, I've found chewing gum or fruit sweets to be helpful for the dry mouth.  Water doesn't really do much except when my throat is so dry I can barely swallow (definitely not nice) so just trial and error, really, to find what suits you.  I usually have a packet of 'TicTaks' close to hand, as well, for convenience Slight smile

    I hope this helps

Wishing you all the best Slight smile
