Hi everyone,

I had been to the breast clinic back in november for a lump in my right breast, which was tender at times. I’m 30 years old, I had an ultrasound that didn’t show the lump although it was palpable. The consultant had thought that it’s not of concern however wanted me back for a review which was last month. The review showed an increase in size and so a core biopsy was done (still awaiting results). However, since the core biopsy the breast is still so tender, so much I need pain relief at night and I can’t sleep on my tummy. It seems it has got worse. The lump feels quite bigger and firmer than it has ever, though I’m unsure if it feels that way just because the pain is bad and I can’t bare to really examine the lump like before.

being a nurse myself I had put down the tenderness and increase in lump size down to the trauma of the biopsy ie inflammation bruising etc but it feels like it’s being going on a bit too long and sometimes I think some days the pain is worse.

anyway I am wondering is this normal? Of course I googled it (which I know you shouldn’t lol) but I did see a lot of people complain of chronic pain after core biopsy.

thanks for reading

  • Hi Cici29 welcome to the forum. Im wondering if its worth trying to sleep on your back for a few nights to see if that is of any help? The main reason Im asking is because lying on your front to sleep means the breast is under constant pressure. (Hope that makes sense?)

I can also imagine that having had 2 biopsies in the same breast this would create some scar tissue and dependant on the size of the breast this could be quite a large area involved. That said are you able to give the breast nurse  a call and see what they think about this and get some re-assurance.

Hi there, I was really sore for a good few of weeks after my biopsy and felt like the area was inflamed. I hope you get your results soon, waiting is so hard.

    Hi,

Thank you, and thank you for your reply. This is my first and only biopsy of the lump, however, I did wonder if maybe it just the normal healing process. I will definitely try and sleep on my back as you said, I also breast feed, wondering if maybe that is aggravating things? But I will contact my doctor tomorrow to check in maybe. As I am not diagnosed and still in the investigation stages I don’t have a breast nurse or any other kind of support, as it was a lump that was monitored over the last several months to see if it did grow before they would do a biopsy or investigate further.

I will contact my doctor tomorrow to see if they have any further advice but I will definitely try and sleep on my back for a few days and maybe some hot towels.

    thank you :)

Oh really, hopefully it starts to ease soon. Thank you x

  • My biopsy pain was much worse than the lumpectomy. I think it was because of the spring needle they use that whacks you! I was sore for a few weeks or so and my lump also increased in size. The information leaflet I got from them said this was normal. It settled down again though. I wonder if you could take anti-inflammatories to take the edge off?
