Hi , just introducing myself to the breast cancer forum. I have just started my first round of FEC-T treatment. I would be grateful for any responses from people in similar circumstances to tell me how they coped. I have put a quick resume on my profile.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear that you had to go through surgery twice.

I have found this forum very helpful and supportive.

Its my second time around that I have joined this forum. I had FEC back in 2012 and will be starting TC next week.

I had a lumpectomy first time around but single mastectomy this time.

As for coping, best way I found was take each day as it comes. Some days I take the day hour by hour! Listen to your body. You will know when you need to rest. One mistake i made last time was when I was having a good day I would run around doing a million things because I felt fine but boy did I pay for it the next day. Another one of my mistakes was dealt with side effects without speaking out because I just thought that they were just part of the treatment. There are things that they can offer.

Remember there is no right or wrong way to deal with things or how you feel. We all deal with things differently but everyone on this group is there for support.

Hope you are doing OK after your first round.

  • Hi SuzySue,

I’ve had 1 round of EC chemo which I’m presuming is different! I had asked my GP for a Co-codomol prescription just in case. I was given anti-sickness drugs and told to phone if they weren’t working. I actually didn’t feel too bad apart from being very tired. I would definitely phone my BC nurse for help instead of thinking I had to put up with symptoms.

My mouth became a bit sore so I’ve bought a soft tooth brush and some bonjela type medication and some non-alcoholic mouth wash. My daughter made up a chemo hygge box for me and I’ve been using the different moisturisers. Some on my scalp. Nearly all my hair has come out but my bamboo headscarf is comfy.

I’m trying to get a short walk most days. I would say I felt rubbish for about a week but then started to feel better.

Hope all goes well for you.

    Hi Del

Thanks so much for your comments. I think the advice about taking things a day at a time are very useful as I’m not good at feeling rough and tend to panic. I will definitely mention my nausea when I see oncology nurse next week and see if there is something else they can prescribe.
