Hi there, I was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 weeks ago and am going for surgery very soon. Sad and scared.
I had surgery last Sept. it was ok. I got back to ‘normal’ within a couple of weeks. Keep up to the exercises they give you, let those around you help you, rest but try and do small Tasks. Be kind to yourself and try and take it one day at a time. Also, use this forum. Let us know how you are getting on. There is always somebody who will help and support. Good luck. Hope it all goes well and hope to hear from you soon.
Hi
I had surgery also on the 4th dec with immediate reconstruction and I was almost back to normal by Christmas too. It’s only natural to be scared but honestly it’s not as bad as you think it wil be. Take care x
That’s extremely encouraging thanks for sharing. I have an unfortunate knack for thinking the worst. I’m going for mastectomy, sentinel node biopsy and immediate reconstruction.
Hi
I had bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction 5 weeks ago and like the other lovely ladies have said it is not as bad as you think it will be. I was in hospital for 2 nights but I know some are in only overnight. You may leave hospital with drains in but mine was only in for 2/3 days after leaving hospital. Keep up with the exercises and you'll soon get there.
Keep positive,keep smiling xx
Hi there, my surgery was about 4 weeks after my consultation with the plastic surgeon when we agreed on the procedure. All in all I was 6 weeks from diagnosis to surgery but I was adamant I wanted full mastectomy not lumpectomy and so didn’t have additional scans or tests. This worked out well for me as there were 2 additional invasive tumours not previously identified on mammo/ultrasound/MRI.
When are you counting the wait from? xx
I had results of diagnosis last week, thats results of all my tests etc, been referred to plastics surgeon last week and awaiting appointment to be seen in clinic by them. Feel okay about having surgery it's the waiting time for appointment that's killing me. What was your diagnosis xxx
Yes the waiting is definitely difficult to bear. I should think once you see your surgeon it’ll be soon after that, ask how long they estimate the wait to be when you attend.
Pre-surgery my (provisional) diagnosis was grade one 9mm invasive cancer, noted via MRI to have a ‘shadow’ nearby most likely DCIS. It was also oestrogen positive. So with 2 abnormal areas identified they then agreed to the mastectomy as they had been promoting lumpectomy up till that point (understandably so but it wasn’t what I wanted).
Post-surgery diagnosis was grade two invasive ductal cancers measuring 9, 10 and 12mm with multifocal DCIS, oestrogen positive, herceptin negative, nodes clear.
I’m on tamoxifen and will have an annual mammo, they’ve agreed to do an MRI for the first few years until the tissue is less dense in the remaining breast. No radiotherapy as nodes clear and obviously no breast tissue to zap and no chemo required.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
