Hi ladies,

I am new to this forum and my first post, so bear with me.

following on from my lumpectomy on 18th Jan 2021, I knew it was not going to be good news because my appointment with the consultant was brought forward by a week.So you try not to over think it and of course it was made worse by the fact that the hospital wanted a bone scan next week.So I knew it wasn’t going to be great before I got to the appointment.

Anyway, I was right, I now have stage 3 breast invasive cancer , so now they will be throwing everything at it.Chemo, total  lymph removal surgery ,radiation and finally hormone treatment.

Just hoping that it hasn’t spread further,. Will know that after the scans..

Life changes in a moment and by god what a year it,s been with the pandemic , let alone with a cancer diagnosis on top of that!I know everyone is feeling that.

Before the surgery, they saidI would probably only need  radiation and hormone, but all that has changed.I did,t ask how many lymph nodes were affected but maybe I will wait for the oncologist appointment. It is all a bit overwhelming at the moment. if any one has been through this , would love to know how you got On and do what to expect.

I am in my late 50, married with two girls, or should I say ladies now, eldest is 21 and youngest is 18.I don’t know about you , but my main worries are about my family and how they will cope.First time ,I have seem my hubby cry.We had a moment today, when I told them but we need to be positive..Really unsure what lies ahead .

I am also an unpaid carer for my 97 year old father. This has been put on hold at the moment but need to see the long term implications on this...I had delayed in telling Mum, who is 90 about my cancer diagnosis , as She relays on me so much and she lost her sister to cancer , when she was only 49.So very sensitive subject.

Do to start chemo in 4 weeks time, after seeing results .Any tips and advise ,gratefully received.

thanks xx

  • Hi Kiki62,  so sorry you find yourself here.

Most if not all of us find the waiting the worst bit.  Once you know what you are facing and therefore your treatment plan you should feel much better.

When I was diagnosed just before Christmas (you can read my bio for my story) I spent a lot of time on this site looking at other peoples bios and have come across at least one person who had grade 3 invasive ductal cancer and she was treated successfully.  Breast cancer is very treatable these days and hopefully you don't have secondary cancer but the wait to find out I know is hard.

There is a January chemo thread you can go to for advice and then there should be a february chemo thread after that with others on there who will be having chemo at the same time as you.  That would probably be the best place to get advice on chemo.  This should be the link

    https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/breast-cancer-forum/f/questions-about-diagnosis-and-treatment/209377/january-breast-cancer-chemo

Hope your scans come back clear but if not you will find help and support here.

    Sending Big virtual Hugs xx

    Hi Kiki62

I was diagnosed Grade 2 invasive ductal cancer, lymph nodes appeared clear on ultrasound  , tumour 21mm , on 23rd December was also informed by looks of things, lumpectomy, radiotherapy and Tamoxifen be treatment plan ( 52 years old and peri-menopausal). Unfortunately during surgery positive lymph node involved so now awaiting Oncotype DX genome test results but strongly suspect chemo is also my next stop, to say I’m absolutely devastated is an understatement as had psychologically prepared myself for radiotherapy and tamoxifen then getting back to work and normal life.

As others know the waiting is torture I’m also awaiting Oncology appointment

thanks and big hugs to you

    xx
