Hi,
I was diagnosed as having pleomorphic lcis. I was told by my surgeon, it's fine, we will remove the 4cm!.lump and if margins are good no further action. I had the lumpectomy, results were margins not clear? So my consultant has suggested total removal of my breast with reconstruction!
This is a massive shock! I'm two weeks post lumpectomy and just developed a seroma so feeling very down with a painful, leaking boob. I have just today been into see my consultant and he cleaned my scar, put a bloody needle in and started aspirating! I nearly hit the roof with pain. Not only did he not say this is what I'm doing etc he rummaged around without telling me what he was doing. This is crucial for me, if you tell me I'm doing this, it's because this, and will benefit this I'm ok, I can cope.
Sore and confused tonight, can somebody give me some help xxx
Hi mollymeggymoo, I'm sorry you are feeling sore and confused. It is surprising that your consultant didn't tell you what he was going to do and warn you first. I would have a word with him next time you see him and make it clear that you would like to be told what is going to happen before it happens. Do you have and medicine that you were given for pain relief that you are able to take if you are feeling sore if not I'd contact your consultant tomorrow and ask what you can take for the pain.
I had a lumpectomy and am waiting to hear back on margins so I can't really give you any useful advice on the mastectomy but hopefully someone who has had a mastectomy will see this and reply to you.
Sending hugs and good wishes xx
Hi
Sorry to hear about your post surgery problems and hope the pain is subsiding. I agree that you should be firm with your consultant next time you see him and make sure he knows how you expect to be informed. I developed a seroma a while after surgery and I know they can get you down so hope yours is reducing.
the recommendation for mastectomy must have been a huge shock and I hope that now the information has had some time to settle in you are feeling a bit better. It's never what we want to hear or what we want but it's not always as bad as you imagine. My treatment was a few years ago and I was originally expecting a lumpectomy but then needed a mastectomy. I found out before my surgery though (more tumours found) so it's a little different. I haven't ever had reconstruction and I've come to terms with it - I'd rather have my old body, of course but I accept that this is me now. It can take time and you may be angry, upset and emotional on the way, but you'll get there. Someone once told me I had to grieve for the breast I'd had removed and it is a little like that - it's a process we go though.
Hope you are doing OK and that the seroma is on it's way out - sending virtual hugs
