Hi

I have been told by my oncologist that I might be able to stop taking letrozole after 5 years. I have heard that some people keep taking it after 5 years. Whilst obviously it would be great to stop taking it, due to the horrendous side effects. I am still worried that once I stop taking it, the cancer will come back? She also told me that after taking letrozole for 5 years,  once you stop it continues to work. Is this usually what happens or is it a way of saving money? My oncologist told me that after that they do not have anymore evidence!!Does anyone else have any experience of this?

Hi Dandelion I started taking Letrazole last December and have also been told it will be for five years.  I think that's the standard plan although I am sure we will be reviewed as we go along.  I am also having three weekly Herceptin injections for a year.  The Oncologist told me that some women are on a 6 months trial to see if that is as beneficial as taking it for a year.  She is keeping me on it the full year which I am pleased about.  Each case is considered independently.  Hope this helps.  Denise xx

How are you getting on with letrozole? I know lots of people find it very hard to tolerate and some have given up on it! I have been taking it for 4 years now and even though the side effects are horrendous I would do anything they tell me to fight this disease! Jen x
