I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS in 2007 and had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy.
In 2012 I was found to have two invasive tumours and a high grade D.C.I.S in my other breast. This was missed at my five yr mammogram , followed by ultrasound. Fortunately for me I have a fantastic Consultant, who wasn't happy with the images. He organized further tests where my tumours.
I chose to have reconstruction and at the same time have a competition mastectomy in my first breast.
I would like to chat with someone who's had a similar experience.
Hi there, and welcome Lizakey, to the club which nobody wants to be a member of!
You are finding yourself in really good company here. People have so much experience and are so happy to share, support and just hand out virtual hugs when the going gets tough.
It must be a bit of a mixed bag for you to have had your two breasts diagnosed, but at different times and different stages of treatment. Have you been going through chemo for the first onslaught? Or are you anticipating chemo after surgery of the second mastectomy.
Really glad to hear your consultant is so good! makes a heap of a difference, when you trust your medical team. Since we have to hand over total control and just have faith, that's not easy at best of times! I think most of us here are control freaks! And we all struggle with the fact that we have none, since this shit has reared it's ugly head!
Please feel free to rant, or ask questions. I am sure you will find great support here.

I have had a double mastectomy and one was a prophylactic mx, with immediate implant reconstruction. I'd had a mammogram less than a year before my cancer was discovered, but when they checked back there was no evidence of anything that had been missed.
If I can help let me know.
Hi mistymoley, thanks for your response. In two years, you're the only person I've known to have similar issue. When did you have your first mastectomy? I decided to have prophylactic completion mastectomy as I couldn't face having cancer again. Would be glad to talk to you. Liz
DoretheeV, thanks for your lovely reply. Will try not to rant, talking would be good as I now suffer badly from depression. Another gift from cancer! But do have some great days. I had radio first time but didn't have anything second time.
I've sent a friend request. If you accept it we can chat
Hi . I too found that I had cancer in both breasts. I had found one large lump in the right side at the end of September 13. I had been for a mammogram the year before but nothing had been picked up.. During the first days of tests and biopsies, I had a another mammogram of both breasts.I then moved hospitals to go under the care of a surgeon I had heard such good things about, and he is brilliant, down to earth, which is just what I needed.
I had all sorts of different tests done, on being an MRI, which to my complete terror showed two tumours in the left breast that the mammogram hadn't picked up !!!!! There was also a worry with my liver, but thankfully further tests showed clear.
Ive had a bilateral mastectomy, with lymph gland and node clearance(right side only) I had expanders put in place so reconstruction could begin straight away.... Ive had 6 rounds oc chemo, and have just finished 15 zaps of radiotherapy !! Its been a long and sometimes hard journey to get to were I am now. I will need another surgery at some point when everything has settled down, but ive been given the ok to go on holiday.. we fly out on sunday !!!!! I cannot wait.
If you think I can help you in any way please feel free to ask or friend request..
Its a crap journey, but we can do it because we are strong !!!!!
Love Jane xx
I found a 1.7 mm lump in my left breast, diagnosed lobular cancer, had a MRI and now found something looking like a line in my right. Having another biopsy today and feeling terrified. Every time I go to get results, there is a complication. Sorry
I also had cancer in both breasts, but I was half way through treatment on one side when they found it in the other. I got about with a lumpectomy and therapeutic mammoplasty on the left side, but had a mastectomy with implant repair on the right. I am currently cancer free
