Hi
I am an 11 year survivor and am trying, at a dustabce, to support a colleague. She is currently on an 18 course chemo and is in A&E with poor kidney function.
Her WBC is low and, tgey are proposing to put her onto IV fluids abd Antibiotics in a cirridor, on a bed/chair surrounded by everyone in a very packed A&E.
When I had similar issues there was a protcol that for any invasive tests or procedures that saud I should be given a suse room, or at the very least, a curtained bay.
Does such a protocol still exist?
Hi Vonnie
Unfortunately A&E departments are very stretched, leading to be people having to be treated wherever space can be found. I don’t think anyone likes it, it’s difficult for staff as well as patients. The important thing is she gets the fluids and treatment she needs as soon as possible.

I am a Macmillan volunteer.
I have metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer, in remission
I was given a card for an emergency contact number. I used it when my picc line was bleeding at the beginning and went straight onto a ward. After surgery I got an infection and forgot about the card. I wasn’t on chemo so didn’t need it. However they were very good and on the emergency surgical assessment unit, where A & E sent me the put me in a private bay. I was told I had to go back into that room as soon S I checked in when I went back to be checked 3 days later.
My BC nurse reminded me that as I was still on immunotherapy I could ring the emergency chemo number still day or night and I would be fast tracked.
Has your friend got the card. I was suppose to carry it at all times in case of accidents too.
Three times! What did I do?
