I was diagnosed with Dcis 12 months ago. I had 2 surgery and radiotherapy.   I wasn't told if it was hormone positive.  Just that it was cancerous cells. I am really struggling with mind block , difficulty concentrating and my mood is allover.  I saw gp 2 weeks ago and it's menopause related. Anyone who is taking HRT at all as I know the GP said she wasn't sure what I could take

  • Hi

I am sorry you have had treatment for DCIS and you are now suffering menopause symptoms. Your GP should know whether it was hormone positive as they should have received full details from the hospital. You can also contact your breast care nurse - you can continue to contact them for 5 years after diagnosis. You don’t mention being given any hormone blocking drugs such as Tamoxifen or Letrozole. My own cancer isn’t hormone positive so I can’t be certain, but I think such drugs would be offered if it’s hormone positive. I don’t think HRT would be advised if it is hormone positive but worth further discussion if not. As I mentioned mine isn’t hormone driven and I was beyond menopause when diagnosed and hadn’t been on HRT, but I continue to use oestrogen pessaries.
