I recently had a mastectomy and am a side sleeper. I have to sleep on a wedge pillow for the next few weeks and find it impossible to get a decent night's sleep. I get an hour, then 20 minutes, then wide awake and it is really debilitating. I am going to see the doctor this afternoon for some sleep support to get me through the wound period. Anyone have any advice?
Hi Rowan
I haven’t had a mastectomy but have had both hips replaced. Each time I had to spend 6 weeks sleeping on my back afterwards. I am not usually a back sleeper and in the weeks before the first one, I tried out all sorts of different solutions. Full body pillows, v shaped pillows, nothing worked. In the end my trick was to have very little height under my head, using a neck support memory foam pillow designed for back sleeping. It took the strain off my neck and shoulders and allowed me to feel comfortable. I also found putting a pillow under my knees reduced back strain.

I have metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer, in remission
Im also a side sleeper but that was impossible after the mastectomy for a while. I also had a diep reconstruction too. I had to sleep on my back, with a couple of pillows to tip me up a bit so I didn’t wake myself up snoring! And it was comfier. I wasn’t given a wedge pillow though or told to use one. Could you add a pillow to the wedge pillow and sleep on your back. I also took strong pain killers before bed and that helped me to get a few hours. It doesn’t seem like it now but it will get easier, all the best x
if you did have a diep too a pillow under the knees too helped x
