My wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer (operation on 7th September). She will have a drain.

i understand she will need to sleep upright. V pillows have been recommended. Could we buy them previously used rather than new?

 Thank you

  • Hi

I am sorry your wife is needing a mastectomy

It’s not that she will need to sleep completely upright, more that she will probably need to be on her back and she will be more comfortable propped up. Hygiene is of utmost importance when you have healing wounds from surgery. Whilst you may be able to source second hand pillows I wouldn’t personally use anything I couldn’t be sure was scrupulously clean.

  • Thank you - my wife is having a lumpectomy and mammoplasty

  • I'm not sure if this charity would be any good for you.   I've never heard of them before and just an AI search - so I can't give any advice whatsoever.

It looks as if second hand items are available and thoroughly cleaned.

I think from a general search you can get V pillows for about £20 - £20 can be a prohibitive cost when money is tight can't it? I think to the recent phase 'eating or heating', but add onto that having to pay for health items, life can be almost too difficult.

I do hope your wife recovers well from her operation and it's great that you are helping her by searching for things to make her life easier.

Kindest wishes to both of you, Lesley
