On the 20th June I found a lump, the last one was back in 2020, stage 2 breast cancer. Lumpectomy and radiotherapy. The new lump is on the same side. Double biopsy on the lump done on my birthday on the 29th June. Appointment with breast surgeon on 4th August. I'm dreading it. The lady that did the double biopsy, when I asked for her thought, she said I can't put your mind at ease with a very sad look on her face. I was distraught.

Why oh why does everything have to take so long. Apparently the surgeons and consultants are all on holiday this week so I can't get any answers. All I need to know, I dont care about the severity or the pleasure of good news, is if it's come back. I dont think I have ever been this scared

  • Hi   I am sorry you are waiting for the appointment to establish whether you have a recurrence. I think you will probably remember from the first time that waiting for test results is one of the hardest things. I hope you can get as much rest as possible over the next few days.

    I am a Macmillan volunteer.

I have metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer, in remission

  • I guess I was a little luckier in that my recurrence happened earlier in a year when staff weren’t all holidaying. But yes, I was scared too. I’d had an mx with implant in 2018 but after a lot of stress, the beast started up behind the implant. This time (2024) a further mx and removal of implant plus radiotherapy and a different combination of drugs, Abemaciclib and Exemestane. I have now had the CT towards end of Abemaciclib and it’s ok.

I guess we can only trust to the skills of surgeons and oncologists, that they will decide on the best way forward for their patients. And I gather bc grows pretty slowly, so although you’re in a flat spin right now, imagining the very worst, please feel a teeny bit reassured that they will choose the right treatment mix for you.

Carry on posting, it does help, and if you’re struggling at night, there’s always the AWAKE thread (though it’s not as busy overnight as it used to be)

    keep busy and keep hope.
