We have a motor home on a Fiat Ducati chassis , the 25 plate. I rang today to ask about having an electric step fitted to the van on the passenger side to make it easier to get into the van that way. The habitation door is fine or I can use a step. We asked where the van is being serviced and they suggested a mobility specialist locally. We hadn't thought of that doing earlier research.
The instantly said they could do it because they'd done it before. I checked if they'd done it on a 25 chassis. No they hadn't but didn't think he would have a problem and quoted £1250. The best price for an electric step of this type is £250. They were going to charge £1000 to fit it. My son is an engineer. He trained to do avionics on Chinooks. He's fixed wind turbines and now fixed trains. He trains and assess techicians. He doesn't earn £1000 a day! I am not an engineer and understand that places have overheads, but £1000 to fit a step.
I've seen things like this before £15 for a cotton pinny to put drains in after surgery. Or in my 94 year old Mums case £3000 for a second hand, sorry pre owned stairlift. . Fitted in a day. I saw it when working. A nativity set made out of wood from the Education specialists £50 from Lidl that year £14. Why do companies think it's Ok to charge extra because they think they are providing something special, dare Isay a captive market , if that's the right expression. I know people have to make a living but I am not sure this is quite fair.
Thank goodness I don't have a wedding to pay for.
P.S. None of the motor home dealers say it can be done due to a change in the chassis so I will be interested to see what the mobility company have got to say.

Oh, yes. I live on an estate and the main road on the opposite side of the estate has the 'posh houses' There's a house there which had been converted to have an extra lower floor area, so I think it must be about 6 bedrooms now. South of England, near the coast, so getting on for £1 million price tag. It's a beautiful property and I've watched as the new owners have been doing things to it.
The front drive was sorted first and there's the most massive motorhome and 3 x new Range Rovers parked there - all with private registrations relating to their business. You'll no doubt know how expensive these motor homes are....
Every now and again, I see the 'work van' outside too. They own shop(s) for disabled/ elderly etc in the town - mobility scooters and so on.
Shows how much mark up is made from these!
