Femara Letrozole

Hi Mibby, I have just been to collect my Accord prescription from Tesco. I have three month prescriptions. Thet had two boxes which I took and they said although they couldn't guarantee obtaining Accord they would try. 48 hours later they contacted me to say it was in. I am in Warwickickshire. Interestingly I was in Swanage on holiday last year and asked at Boots what brand they had in. It was Femara! I didn't take it as I have have no side effects of note from Accord (fingers crossed) and I didn't want to make the change for changes sake. Which part of the country are you in? I think the shortages are sometimes regional. xx

Hi, I have never had issues getting Accord brand.  I am in Cumbria, but for the last 6 months or so I have been getting my prescription via post from PHARMACY2U ( the one recommended on the NHS app)

Hi, I couldn't get Accord or Sun Pharma this week and spent a lot of time on chatGPT looking at the ingredients and fillers and making comparisons.  This is only what I found and is not medically confirmed, but it seems Accord and Sun Parma are reasonably similar to the original, Femara.  I now have Novumgem, will see how that goes.  It also has a reasonably similar set of ingredients though a different starch. I was offered a choice and the other one, Rudipharm, had no starch. From what I can see starch helps with the pace of absorption.

By the way, they all have the same amount of active ingredient, it's the fillers that differ.  Good luck with getting a brand that works for you.

Devon, and the pharmacy has struggled to get Accord for a few months

I have been on letrozole for 5years (got another 2 years to go) and have been prescribed accord all that time but in the last month the pharmacist hasn’t been able to get this make. I have tried various other makes but have suffered quite severe side effects. I am based in scotland. She said it was a supplier issue.

Sorry that ive not been on here for a few days to answer all your very useful replies.   I am in Felixstowe Suffolk. I was given rudipharm instead of accord.  I took it for a month and ended up not being able to walk for several seconds after sitting. My back and hips were so stiff and painful that it took several metres of walking until it eased. Then at bedtime I almost crawled to get to bed.  I’ve never ever had such a bad reaction.  I had to move my supplier to Boots 2 years ago because Day Lewis would no longer attempt to get me accord despite it being requested by my oncologist. For 2 years Boots gave me accord but the last 3 months they say they can no longer get it.  I’m wondering if I offer to pay for Femara, will that guarantee I won’t be switched to a generic.  I can hardly afford it but I’m desperate as I have another 7 years on this drug.

That’s interesting about Rudipharm having no starch. Could this be the reason I’m struggling on it I wonder!   Good luck with Novumgem.

Supply issue is what I’ve been told. It’s bad enough having to take this drug but to have supply issues on top can be debilitating!  Hope you get back to accord asap.
