Letrozole

Hi, Mibby I was on Letrozole too, and my GP wrote ‘please supply Accord brand’ on my repeats which helped, but I always ensured I had a few packs in reserve as my chemist is a part of an independent chain and didn’t always stock specific brands. I was lucky in that they managed to get it. GP conversation actually included that they’d be prepared to request Femara which is the original brand name. Might therefore be worth you talking to your GP about this? You might be surprised? I’m now on Exemestane, having had a recurrence.

I have been taking Letrozole for five years now and can say with complete honesty that the pain I suffer at the top of my arms is quite unbearable at times! I am constantly spraying either a cold spray or deep heat to help with the pain.

I was told by the consultant that this would happen and that I would also lose hair, which happens every single day, luckily though I have a lot of thick hair, so it is not noticeable. On saying all of this I want to continue taking this tablet for the full ten years as it makes me feel a wee bit safer x

I don't know the brand name as I get my medication in a dosette box.

I've only been on letrozole three weeks and I can't bare it, I can't be like this for 10 years I'm half the person I was. I felt better on chemo for crying out loud. After seeing your post I asked my Dr to print off my next prescription so I can call round and try and find accord, and I did find it at Morrisons pharmacy. So starting it tonight, I hope to God it's better than the cheep ones. Thanks for your post. Hope you get back on it. 

Ive been taking the accord brand (which i specifically asked for)  for just over a year. I was 65 when I started taking it. Ive had quite a bit of extra hair loss=thinning, but that seens to have settled now-and I have baby hairs coming through. I've been using a gro3mwth serum that I saw on the internet, but not very regularly.

One of my  main issue is joint stiffness; mainly in my knees and hips, but sometimes my ankles get a turn.  Cant say its particularly painful, just stiff until i get going. 

But the other huge issue is intimate dryness, and loss if libido.  Ive spent a fortune on moisturisers and lubricants, but tbh-the desire just isn't there any more, obviously due to the lack of hormones.  I couldn't ask for a more understanding partner tho.

Thank you for your reply.  I will talk to my GP if I can get an appointment.  It’s an absolute battle to be able till stick to one brand. I’ve been given Rudapharm and I’m like a cripple.  Worst ever experience.

Hello Louise. I feel for you, starting out on this evil pill is no picnic.  Hot sweats , sleepless nights. Aching bones. It’s not nice.  I hope you find accord is better for you and if you do, then getting it every month is key.  Switching brands plays havoc.  It’s not the active ingredient that differs from brand to brand it’s the filler they use to make up the pills.  The fillers differ and can cause worsening side effects. It’s an extremely important drug for helping to prevent recurrence so getting the right one is crucial.  Good luck with it all. Xx
