After waiting for 3 months I’ve just had a single mastectomy (2 weeks ago) for ILC and want to know how best to deal with the scar. I know there’s a lot of guidance on scar massage, but what creams or oils do you recommend…..my ‘previously occupied territory’ deserves some tlc!
Hi, I’ve very dry skin and so massaging definitely needs some! I fell in love with a Lush cream (can’t remember what it’s called but it’s a multi-purpose one with little perfume) I used Aveeno for massage during radiotherapy which helped, but the Lush cream feels silkier and slightly thicker which suits my skin. I’m away at the moment and using up my old bottle of Simple lotion which I’m not keen on, it’s thinner and less moisturising, but it’s smaller and easier to pack than the Lush cream.
I think it’s a matter of personal preference really and what suits your skin. I gather that massaging the area plus doing daily exercise is necessary for the rest of our lives! That’s certainly the advice of a Late Effects Radiotherapy specialist I’ve been seeing.
